I rode into work this morning and my ride home will be the last on my GTR. The insurance expires at midnight as my FJR arrives tomorrow. I'm still not sure I've done the right thing but I will share my first impressions after I've had the FJR for a week and I will still have time to pull the GTR from eBay if I need to.
Wish me luck
Good luck. At least you are not going to the dark side!
Be interesting to see your comparison, hope the GTR is still there for you
The latest incarnation of the FJR seems like a very good bike.
Good luck and keep us posted

Mine's a 62 plate so a Gen 2 unfortunately
Changed my FJR for the GTR it was a 08 reg but always needed the extra gear but the new one now has the six speed gear box which will make this a great bike and will be hard to beat

Invest in good waterproofs.
Don't expect to make it around corners.
Keep the GTR.

That Chris, must be the shortest most specific review of yours that I have read :mfr_lol:
Love it! :mfr_lol:

Should have ordered a K16.....it's the only way forward. or backwards with their ecu fault!!
ECU fault, has one failed?
Apparently some had to be re programmed as they might go backwards instead of forwards when starting off. A tad embarrassing at the traffic lights!!
Good luck !
Got the new one already now?
And.... ?

That would be a good trick on an inline 6 or 4 , unless its an mz or Francis barnett type 2 stroke hidden under the fairing .
when i purchased my GTR in 2010 i had a 4 hour ride on th FJR , apart from the 5th gear issue i preferred the Yammy in every way to the GTR . my wife had much better visability on the GTR and poor over my sholder view on the FJR . As i was a kawasaki loyal I went for the GTR , never regretted the GTR but if it had of been a non pillion bike id have had the FJR.

Its a Gen 3 on that year
Just finished the first weekend. Initially I was hating the handling as the suspension was horrendously soft but I found the adjusters and now it handles better than the GTR. I was also disappointed by the power but then found sport mode which solved that too.
Apart from the stupidly shaped and sized panniers, I think I prefer it to the GTR. The handling is better, it's almost as fast and the electronics, especially the cruise control, are a generation on. Mine's a 62 plate and I haven't found the need for a 6th gear yet.
Sorry but it looks like the GTR is going to have to go. eBay here I come
This was my emotional facebook post on Friday night:
Just got home from work on my GTR which will be the list time I ride it as the insurance runs out at midnight.
I've had it just over 3 years and have done 3 Tours of Britain, a Women's Tour, the Tour de France Grand Depart, 2 Tours de Yorkshire, done 160mph in Germany and Wattisham runway and generally enjoyed almost every minute of riding it. Other than the self induced breakdowns (2 x no fuel (chasing Tesco points), one disconnected battery terminal and a couple of punctures) it hasn't let me down.
Bye GTR and I really hope the FJR is better but has a tough act to follow

If it has 6 gears it's the later model, Yamaha have dispensed with the straight cut gears in favour of bevel cut gears which allowed more space for a 6th gear

You're right. I thought the new one with 6 gears was Gen III but that must be Gen IV.
G'day Mate, You haven't done the right thing, but good luck. :listencarefully: hope it goes well for you.
Cheers
