Post by: nightrider on June 11, 2016, 02:32:07 PM
Going to Ireland on mon for a few days to ride the ring of Kerry. It says that you do not need a passport to go but some photo Id . As I have a old style driving license that has no picture on will this be ok . Did not want to take passport if not needed , do they check at all or will we just ride through, thanks Garry ,

Take your passport and EHIC card. It is an independent foreign country after all (even if we do have travel waiver agreements with them)

Cheers

:agree: It's the only time I have ever had a full security check,  :police:
Coming back from Rosslare to Fishgaurd, even had to empty the panniers   .......mind I was on a BMW then!

Went from NI to Eire last september.  No border guards, nothing at all to suggest we had crossed the border until we noticed the different road signs.  However we did need passports as ID at the airport

Within the EU you can (in theory) travel with only your drivers licence as ID but it MUST be the photo version.
I know 2 people who have tried it and both said it was a PITA. Better off taking yer Passport, especially when coming back into the UK.

I agree with George, it's easy to take your passport and that way know that you will have easy travel access

No body gave us a second glance ,coming or going , went to Waterford ,then on to Killarney fantastic roads to there , did the gap of Dunloe , through 4 miles of horse shit , you have to see it to believe it , then did the ring of Kerry , stunning roads and breathtaking views , pubs great and people very friendly, last night in Dublin , weather was very good especially when we did the ring  , took the ktm 1050 to do the trip and it was the perfect bike for it , will be off again in the future,  :biker3:
