Title: Led light for saddle
Post by: badaboum on June 01, 2016, 12:45:40 PM
Hello

I am thinking in adding LED light to the sadlle and the top case.

Anyone have a good idea on where to start for an invisible solution?

Sincerely

You can get this brake light kit off ebay.

I think you mean a side light. If that was the UK it wouldn't be legal so it's probably worth checking the regulations in France first, which might be why you're struggling to find any.

Hello

No I mean one that will light on when you open the pannier to have light inside :-)

Ah; I get you now.

I would suggest a battery operated stick on light. It won't come on automatically but you just need to push it to turn it on :-) Anything wired to the ignition won't work unless your ignition is on which it probably won't be when you're looking in your panniers or top box.  Anything wired to the battery is likely to go wrong and flatten your battery at some point when the switch shakes loose and it's on all night.

P.S. saddle in English is what you sit on. Panniers are what you have to put your luggage in. Saddlebags are what you have on a horse unless you're unfortunate enough to be American :-)

You can stick on battery powered led lights  that activate when they sense movement

Just search on  Amazon for 'motion sensor led light'

I think he only wants them to light up when he opens the top box?

I remember M G Valerio (R.I.P) fitted some lights to the panniers of his GTR, I've looked at some of his posts, but there are lots to check, and........some of his accompanying pictures/clips have now been deleted

Maybe a more detailed search will provide an answer

Just a thought

Even one that was on the whole time would seem to go off when they are closed.  Battery life wouldn't be good, though.

What about something like this for inside the top-box?

In the pannier I already have the round push one. It's nice but a strip led is better.

I am going to see if I can tweak one

In the top case I have a philips sensor one that works fine

Ok, on Ebay I searched for "1m 12V LED strip".

Those should do the job. You could even get technical and fit microswitches so they come on when the panniers open, and quick-connect/release connectors (3.5mm jack plug/socket?) between the bike and the panniers/top-box.

Cheers

I was thinking in battery operated one as LED are low consumption equipment

I will have a look to find microswitches for the lid
