hi.i am new here so welcome everyone.today i have gone from zx10r to grand gtr1400.took it out to nearest gas station as the fuel gauge was flashing...and by flashing i mean top half of the gauge flashes and then bottom half and it keeps going.i filled it up and it wasnt empty as onky 13l took it to the top of the tank.and it keeps flashing all the time.i did about 50mls on it and nothing changed.is this a sign of a problem somewhere else?
thnx in advance for any advice.
looks like i losted in the wrong plce..newbie.can someone move it to the right place?
how old is your bike, being Black it could be 2008 or maybe 2015 model year
If the bike is older and has been stood for a while it may be that the sender unit is stuck
A return trip to your supplying dealer or nearest Kawasaki dealer would be an option, that is if it doesn't cure itself
I think that's normal from what the OP describes. I ran into the back of a GTR1000 bike when that first happened to be. One of our members has a kit that will stop that flashing. Also wards off elephants.

Jim, you are bonkers :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
And that's when I'm sober.. :mfr_lol:
Brandy and dry o'clock here Jim
sry for being a muppet. its black yes but its a a8f 2007. and it has been standing for a while.but my question was what does it indicate when it flashes this way?that there is no signal from the fuel level sensor or what? thnx.
also...it looks like there is no tyre pressure sensor option in the menu.is it that only certain years had this feature?
and i just thought about another thing.the abs is not working and dealer said they couldnt connect with the bike to see any codes.they have connected to the ecu and ran the pump diagnostics and supposedly it was fine.but its certain the abs isnt working.could the fuel gauge flashing be connected in some way to this?

ABS was an option on early GTRs
Your Tyre pressure monitors rely upon effective battery power mounted on the inside of the wheel (valve) and it is not uncommon for the early models to suffer dead batteries resulting in no message to the instrumentation, If this is the case you will require new battery(s) which I'm afraid is not cheap unless you are proficient enough to complete the task yourself. however there are a couple of threads on here which will help you and you should use the search box
I wouldn't have thought the fuel gauge flashing was anything connected to the ABS system, but it is possible I suppose, others more electronically expert than me (most) will no doubt be along to advise
Good luck, and you are only a muppet if you don't ask
As far as I know, the low fuel message has absolutely nothing to do with the ABS system. If you cycle through the screens, you should see one for tire pressure. If it's just - - or you don't see one at all then the pressure sensors have dead batteries.
thank you for all the replies.
my model has an abs but it isnt working for some reason.the dealer could not get the code even after connecting to the ecu by a cable.so i know its not going to work anytime soon.
but right now this fuel gauge flashing in a weird way as it doesnt say empty or low fuel it just flashes top half and bottom half of the bars one after another.and no one seems to have that problem.tried looking in the manual but nothing on that.
anyone?pls i am stuck
I really don't know what's going on with your bike based on your symptoms. How do you know the ABS isn't working? Does the ABS light stay on? If you have the bike at a Kawasaki dealer they should be able to fix it. If not, find another dealer. Sounds like your electrical system has gone berserk. You said it had been sitting awhile. Could mice have got into the wires?
I'm with you Jim, ......get the bike to a Competent Kawasaki dealer (which may be the one you purchased from) get it thoroughly checked over.
Fuel senders and ABS are notorious for going faulty if a bike is stood for a long period. If you do not have access to diagnostic equipment and you are not a competent DIY mechanic/electrician then the best advice has already been given, take it to a competent Kawasaki Dealer.
If the dealer can't connect to the bike correctly then I would guess that either he doesn't have the right diagnostic equipment or maybe there is a problem with the bike's can bus, hence no correct information on the display. That is only a guess though and as the other guys say, will be worth a trip to a kawasaki dealer for a correct diagnosis.

Did you buy the bike from a dealer or private sale?

I suppose that until the bikes instruments are fixed you can still use the bike by filling the tank setting the trip and ride for 160/180 miles then fill, up again
