I think there are a few on here (maybe Debs) using the Laminar lip
My question is...is it effective and I'm wondering if a Laminar Lip will fit the latest Model GTR screen, which may be a little larger than previous, so what do you think ?
Yes I do OC.
Contact Heroblobs. They have 2 different sizes for the GTR depending on the year. Ask for the sizes. http://shop.heroblobs.co.uk
If you let me know the width of your screen at the top, I will measure mine to see if it's the same.
I love mine, and when I changed bikes kept the screen with the lip. I wouldn't be without it.
I fitted a laminar lip to the original screen, and was quite happy with it. I have a MRA vario screen which I have tried and never been completely happy with and have reverted to a laminar lip.

Thanks Debs, It measures 420mm (165 inches) with the tape stretched across the top inside of the screen

My screen is great and Kawasaki have now enlarged it and fitted it with a vent for this model year, all of which is fine, but I still get gusts and loud buffeting noise at various height adjustments so I thought I would try a laminar Lip
After not being happy with screen and buffering on my model 2010, i fitted after many doubts this week the touring xcreen from mra.
Ough... At last i am very happy with it !
Pity i didnt put it before.
My gtr girlie is a great bike, but couldnt find a solution for the only issue i had with this bike, coming from a big bmw tourer with a large windscreen, ie never had issues with wind or buffering on those...
Today i went for a 300 kms ride in france, and there are many possibilities with this extension, so can find with every speed the perfect solution !
Great thing that !
Hope if you have any doubts you can decide faster than me to find the better solution for you , without changing the looks of this great bike a lot...
Good luck
:punk:
Ps and it costed me only 99 euro delivered at home, flanders fields...
I also have the laminar lip at house not on the latest size screen, I also have a spare screen with another laminar lip on it if you want to borrow it and see your more than welcome, I can post it up to you or if I can get my rear in gear I will come up for a couple of days and bring it with me.
Better still I could take it to the meeting and you can try it at your leisure.

thanks very much Al that's very kind of you
I really want to keep the OEM screen that is currently on my bike as it features the 'vent' system that works really well.
I wanted to try and reduce the 'roar' that I experience with the screen in various positions and the Laminar Lip seems like a possibility
Hey OC.
I measured my screen and it's the same width so you will need to order this one..
http://shop.heroblobs.co.uk/collections/kawasaki-gtr1400/products/laminar-lip-for-kawasaki-gtr1400-with-tall-screen
OC.. When you get the Laminar Lip, my advice is to bolt it on..
It stops anyone nicking it plus my first one flew off at speed on the motorway. :mfr_lol:
I used flanged button head bolts and rivet nuts..

thanks Debs and a good tip
I see the lip and the xcreen is not the same thing : the xcreen you can change it easily following wind and speed and weather conditions before your ride...
There is a version with common bolts that let stick things together for always. But there is a handy come in with a kind of levers you can always change . I do that only sometimes eg with strong wind and fast speed, or if its becoming really too hot in slower rides (set to have more wind on chest) .
Very flexible thing and it is strong made (germans...stttt....:punk:  :punk: ) ...
I ordered a Laminar Lip from Heroblobs which arrived promptly on Friday, its a straightforward job to fit and took about ten minutes, making sure the screen was firstly correctly cleaned and the adhesive mount correctly installed, I'll follow Debs good tip and permanently secure the lip later.
Yesterday a trip to the Blackpool Kawasaki Triples rally was a good opportunity to put it to the test with some good A roads plus some motorway use and I can report that it has made a considerable difference to lessening wind noise especially on motorways where its now possible to almost enjoy open visor cruising with the screen fully extended. I haven't been able to try it with Gill as pillion as yet so we'll have to wait and see
The cost ? well it was 70.50....money well spent in my opinion

That's good to hear, then I won't bring my spare one to the meeting next week cr you to try.
I reckon it's the best extra I have added to my bike over all the rest, just steps the air up above higher and makes it more comfortable.
Alan
I am still undecided about the lip adding.
On flea-bay there is a MRA vario screen with the lip already fitted for £114 delivered
( my screen does not have the vent like yours O.C. So not that problem. )
What are your thoughts gents regarding this screen as the lip is around £70 this sounds perfect if your opinions are favourable thanks in advance for any help
Had my lip on the standard screen for three years now and it's the best, never tried any other screens at all on my 2011 bike and don't feel the need, I am 6'3" tall and it does for me a treat.
If there is anything better out there then I will be amazed.
Alan
Thanks Alan for the info.
The lip may be the way forward I don't need much adjustment to serve my purpose now need to order correct size for my 2014

No need Al, and many thanks again for your kind offer..
That's awesome OC.. Glad you are happy with it.. Good that you also intend to secure it permanently.
I have found that with the Lip, it also takes pressure off the screen motor bracket making it less likely to break like has happened to others.

Looks like I need to be ordering a lip . Definitely getting noise with the screen up, currently riding with the screen fully down as less noise and buffeting but plenty of wind pressure on the shoulders.
Guys and galls.
What is the correct way to work out which size lip you need ?. The year and model of bike or by measuring the screen .
If measuring where do you take the measurement from . :help:
by visiting the Heroblobs site you are able to choose your screen from their website
There are two types offered, 08/09 and 2010 on which includes 08/09 tall screen option
So, identify which screen your bike has and choose accordingly
If you aren't sure about which screen you have fitted then someone who has a standard screen and the accessory screen should be able to provide you with measurements for you to check yours against
Furthermore the accessory screen from Kawasaki is the same size as the OEM standard 2010 screen
Hope that helps
Thanks O.C.
I saw the web site stated 2010 onwards including 08/09 taller screens.
Mine is standard so I presumed this is the one I needed.
