what a ba☆☆☆rd.
Got home today to find that my neck lanyard clip had broken and my fob and top box key gone with it from underneath my jacket :hammer:
I'll have to use the emergency key until I can suss out my longer term options, you can imagine I was just a tad ticked off :hammer:
I jumped in the car and back tracked over the route stopping to ask at filling stations and shops etc en route, but nothing has been handed in. I visited a local police station but it was closed and no one answered the door, so I visited the much larger police station in my home town...same story, and no one answered the outside contact phone  . .so I'll try my luck with plod again tomorrow
What ba☆☆☆rd
That is such a bummer when it happens.
 I misplaced my keys famously as I was about to set of for a Tour de Wolf.
Man was I distressed angery and ultimately embarrassed . :taz:
My thoughts are with you on this one OC
thanks Charlie, I've been in touch with my mate from the dealership, and will speak with him tomorrow, he a very good friend and I know he'll get things sorted
I checked the parts fiche and part number 21175A is going to set me back £221.75 plus re programming
So I'm just a little tetchy tonight.
Fingers crossed that the local police may just have had them handed in
Thats why mine lives in a zipped up and velcroed pocket.
Hope ya find it.
cheers George, lesson learned for me, its a tightly zipped pocket in future
Maybe i could get it surgically implanted somewhere appropriate :mfr_lol:
I hope that you are now on the road to recovery too
I always keep mine in a zipped up pocket. More complications from technology. A key with a spare so much simpler. And you do not need to replace the batteries!
Mine is also kept in my zipped pocket.
I've never trusted lanyards as they do break.
Maybe someone has run over it OC and it's now in pieces somewhere.
Mine is in my pocket, attached to a chain which is attached to a belt loop. Only way I can lose it is to lose my pants.

when I was out searching the moorland roads for the fob, I was expecting to see the remains, but saw nothing.
I'll go back to the local cop shop this morning and see if they can help, that's if I can get to speak to someone :whistling:
And Jim, thats the second reference you've recently made to either losing your pants or riding boll☆ck naked ....should we be worried, or maybe there's something else that you want to share with us all :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Keys much more convenient.

Ah .......a feature off early K16 you approve of :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
PS I love key less :whistling:
Just been to the local cop shop and they were most helpful, although nothing has been handed in yet, they will contact other local stations and community centres (where they have a presence) to see if anything has been handed in. Problem is they aren't actually allowed to record key losses.
The officer was extremely helpful and sympathetic, so fingers crossed
I'll have to organise a replacement which will be a cost I could do without :censored:
Knowing my luck the originals will turn up after I've bought a spare set. if so I'll have a spare

I hate keys. I now have three 'keyless' vehicles including the bike. No turning back.
had a scare this morning when my mate Brian rang to advise me that I may not get away with only replacing the lost fob ! I may have also needed a control unit the combined cost if which would be in the region of £650+
Fortunately because I have the spare fob Brian tells me that I will be able to just buy a remote fob and get it re-programmed, so a massive saving on cost.
I should be able to get the re-programming done later next week
Brilliant job Brian, and for me a big lesson learned.
If you lose everything then the ecu has to be replaced along with the fobs. Very expensive.

Ouch.
one thing i dont miss about the GTR is the worry of the keyless system. My MO was to have a lanyard for the fob which i had around my neck but it was always tucked into my inner jacket pocket.my wingman always carried the card key attached to a cord attached to her inside jacket pocket .
Im Looking forward to getting a bike with good old fashioned keys again

:mfr_lol: Well you were certainly key less on our most recent ride weren't ya?
Key system much better. No battery to worry about. Cheaper to replace. Fob pain in bum if you lose and unnecessary expense. Just keep spare key and you are away.
Sorry to read that O.C. What a kick in the :censored: after all the outlay for a new bike .
I must admit I love the keyless system but you have to be so careful with it whatever way you prefer for the fob .
thanks pross, I ought to know better....I mean its not like this is my first GTR :mfr_lol:

Just a tthought. Does your insurance cover lost/replacement keys and locks?

Good point, I'll have to check ~~ but now that the only thing I need is a replacement fob the cost will be cheaper than my excess
there's been a development. .....it seems that I may have left my keys including the fob in my top box when I set off from Clapham on Wednesday. .a pal Chris followed me up the road at some distance away and recalls seeing something being flicked up from the rear wheel, and going into the grass verge, he can't remember exactly where but does think it wasn't far from Clapham on the A65...so I'm going back tomorrow to see if I can find the keys and fob
A replacement fob has now arrived at my dealers and they can reprogram the bike next week.
Fingers crossed. ..again,
.
BMW fobs of course have homing mechanism so if you lose them they make their own way home!
I was fobbed off by a BMW dealer when I required help in fixing the K1300GTEE that I owned at the time, incidentally I bought the bloody thing from them new some months earlier

regrettably that is normal for BMW dealers in my experience. Over priced over hyped and over here. By charging more for their product and services they lure people into believing it is a better product. It is not. Despite your fob difficulties you are better off with a Kawasaki. But I think you know that. Of course when you have been lured in you are stuck until you realise the truth.
So are you all sorted now fob wise?

You could always staple the fob to a homing pigeon and leave it in the top box . Just a thought :whistling:
