I had some cracks appear on my left hand top fairing, around the fastener and spread to the heated grips control. Put it down to me over tightening the fastener :hammer:
So bought a new one from Kawasaki dealer, J&S near Northwich, fitted and made sure the fasteners were not to tight.
Just got back now from a ride up to the Ponderosa cafe on the horseshoe pass, lovely day, uneventful ride, all normal.
Got home and noticed this.
Now this is nowhere near the fastener and it certainly wasn't there when I started out.
Return as faulty part? What do you think and anyone suffered the same, a little p :censored:d off to say the least.
it's hard tobsay, but it does appear to be faulty. ....which is a pain in the :asshole:
Well that's another £50 worth of useless plastic - got the receipt? then it's not fit for purpose whenever it was bought. Mine is still holding up but I look at both panels after each ride.
Mines cracked same side by the screw. I'm going to try a hot glue gun to see it that will fix it.
Seems a common weakpoint. Mine went and I bought a replacement. Fitted it VERY carefully, but 1000 miles later, yes, its cracked around the scre hole again. I'm not going to waste another £37 just yet
That's shoddy.

:agree: with yer thinking Debs...........Did it work ?
Glad to see it's not just mine. Going back tomorrow, £50 worth of useless plastic :censored:
Also sent a picture to Kawasaki UK with the details, from the few comments on here it's obviously a weak point.

Not that she was actually going to use it.. :mfr_lol:
I bet BMW have never experienced a problem like that.
Maybe not on the plastics, but possibly in a more critical place..

Joking aside, the fairing and plastics on the K16 are of a much higher quality than the GTR. :whistling:
Quick update from J&S Kwacker dealer. Shown problem etc, agrees plastic is flimsy at that end, nothing to cushion it from vibes of bike, taken photo's of it and will forward to Kawasaki UK. If they won't play he will supply a new one at cost price only, also will give me something to seat around the edge of the new one to cushion it. Seem's a decent enough chap.

My pleasure, just had an E Mail from Kawasaki UK asking me to go into my local dealers so they can "examine it" and take a photo.
Just replied that I have done that, so now Kawasaki have two photos, let's wait and see

I don't doubt that for a minute the level of quality in a BMW in all areas far surpasses anything in a GTR. I'm surprised people don't realise this.

Should get a call from my local dealer today about what's happening.
My own thought's are if they agree to replace mine would that open the door to everyone else that has suffered this problem? One person I spoke to said if it was a problem identified by owners and the cause was the thin plastic at that point and lack of a cushioning liner then they should have recalled the bikes to put some cushioning under that panel.
I wonder, as I did on the first panel, if people just assume they have overtightened the fastener and caused it to crack, where clearly this may not be the case.
Maybe a door Kawasaki may want to keep shut. :whistling:

good point well made, kawasaki haven't been lax at recalling bikes in the past, the cracked panel wouldn't be considered a safety related problem, and if some correction was needed then I think that it could have been done during a service.
It will be interesting to see what response you receive
Keep us posted please
BMW would not muck about they would sort as quickly as possible.
Right......
I don't think that they would initiate a recall for this kind of thing. Recalls are usually done for safety issues. It could be issued as TSB (Technical Service Bulletin), though.
To demonstrate how good BMW are I'll share this with you. I was in the showroom the other week when I mentioned to the parts guy that my pinlock on the visor wasn't as good as it used to be in that it misted. He told me that they are guaranteed for 2 years which I wasn't aware of. I took visor with attached pinlock down showed him my receipt to prove it was less than 2 years old, I'd had it 18 months and without any hesitation they gave me a new visor with pinlock saving me about £70. Now thats BMW service for you!
BMW they are the best no doubt about it
I thought you had a C3 helmet not a BMW one

No, I switched to BMW System 6 EVO shortly after getting the bike.
BMW helmets definitely the best.
i feel a bit nauseous. ........can't imagine why :mfr_lol:
No, it's the dealer, not the brand. We have an excellent BMW dealer where I live as well. The owner/managers are the ones that make dealerships great. Doesn't make any difference on the brand from my experience.
Ok, al this positivity from PRD on BMW is getting a little unnerving now and freaky.

the bmw shouldn't have faults ,but at least if they do have a fault ,you would not have any arguments getting the work put right under warranty!!!
I'll resist the temptation :mfr_lol:

Wow IMPRESSIVE!!!
22,000 on my GTR and guess what ... NO issues!!!
Glad they are replacing the plastic panel. I used to work on the same biz park as Kwaka UK they were extremely helpful.

All mine are out of warranty
Been in, signed and waiting for the part. They are fitting it and will put a silicone type seal around it, presumably to cushion any vibes. At least with them fitting it, any further problems should be easy to sort :whistling:
