These little write up's never seem as popular as they used to be a few years ago but hey ho, I know some folk still like reading the tales and looking at the photos so I thought I'd do one.
Please be aware though that some of the following photos are graphic and contain pictures of a BMW K1600 :whistling:
Sunday 24th April was a day when I was intending to show Charlie the delights of Hardknott Pass in The Lake District but alas twas not to be. He'd failed to strap down some machinery the night before in his van and consequently it slipped, he thought being Britain's strongest man that he'd move the mere 200kgs like he can move a plate of chips and before you knew it, his back's buggered and he can't even get the bike off the side stand.
Now I now Charlie likes these little tours so he won't have gone down without a fight, but when Mrs Charlie says you aint going, then he's not going as she's in charge and what she says stands!
So, first destination was Devils Bridge at Kirkby Lonsdale which was suprisingly busy. Here I bumped into 100milesaway on a short jaunt from his home town. Sandwiches downed, quick chat and I thought I'd push on in the hope that the weather would improve which thankfully it did just a few miles down then road.
I stopped off at Windermere to stretch my legs and take a few photos down by the marina as by now the sun was breaking through the clouds.

I've never sailed on Windermere but perhaps one day I should as this family were doing.

Next destination was Hardknott Pass and I don't know what it is about this Pass but it seems virtually every time I do it there is a cycle event on and it's always coming towards me! Certainly keeps you on your toes on the blind corners.
By now the weather was as good as it was going to get so it was photo time for the bike.
Anyway without mishap I arrived at the end of Hardknott Pass and at Hardknott Bar & Cafe where they had a some live entertainment on and she was damn good.
Not very busy in the pub but then it is a nice place to relax and have a drink or two and it's clean and dog friendly.
Next stop was Wast Water near Wasdale Head where rumour has it there is a sunken Lancaster bomber from trial runs which the RAF performed whilst training for the Dam Busters raid which was subsequently carried out back on 16th & 17th May 1943.
Ritsons Bar.

This was tempting inside, I do like my hot chocolates.

Round the back of the pub there's a route you can take over the big unto the many popular walks, Scafell Pike, Kirk Fell, Great Gable, etc.
Lambing season at the moment, I was talking to a farmer chap who was just setting off to check on the lambs, his trusty hound, Jill eager to lead the way. It's always an experience to watch a working dog doing it's stuff and this one was keen to get going.

To the rear of a pub is a quaint little bimbling stream with the mountains looming in the background.

As is often the case though, time was against me and I had to push on. As I left the pub I stopped by the great lake which is the deepest lake in the UK and took a few more photos. The photos never seem to do it justice though especially at this time of there day when the light is usually a bit flat and/or harsh.

I particuarly like this shot with the reflection of the rocks in the water.

I don't what the story was with this, it caught my eye and I thought the boot has to be fastened down surely, but no it was just resting on the sign. Did someone leave it there by accident, is it a permanent feature, who knows, but it made for an unusual shot.

The final photo of the day was at the same location, the K1600 dwarfed by the landscape, and before anyone asks....no, I did not fetch the chair with me.

I took the scenic route back home, return journey back over Hardknott Pass, into Ambleside and then back towards Skipton and home.
Just a tad over 200 miles and a very pleasant day out on the bike. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
Hope you enjoy the write up and the photos and if you have always fancied exploring this area, get on with it and do it!!
Thanks for the great write up and pics Steve, might just have to wander up that way some time

Good write and pics, some thing you never tire off is getting on the bike and having a good ride out , how folk can say that they don't have time so they are selling the bike ,should read your post and see what biking is all about , :biker3:

Picture of the Collie on the bridge - that wasn't the wonder dog en-route back to Wales was it?
Thanks for your best wishes with regard to my health. :agree:
The planned tour Steve outlined as I drove back home from a show in Snainton on Saturday night sounded to be right on the money. Which the pictures prove beyond all reasonable doubt m'Lord.
To say I was well miffed to miss the tour was an understatement. The fact I missed out through an own goal only compounded my feelings.
Still I'm looking forward to doing this tour once my back recovers and our respective off duties match :scooter:
Charlie Boy, we will explore that region as soon as your back is upto it!
What region of Charlie are you going to explore Steve? 😆

I think I'm away around then Charlie, that's why I didn't want to commit to saying I was going at the time of the first post, but if that falls through then I'll try and get down for at least one of the days. Would be good to say hello to everyone!

May be I got it wrong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wast_Water I think this Lake is the deepest lake in England, possibly not the UK. My mistake.
