Title: Horn upgrade - Live wire problems
Post by: mark1400 on April 10, 2016, 11:50:24 PM
Hi there, I have a high-powered horn that I would like to fit but im am sure you can guess what my problem is.

How the hell do I get live wire from the battery to the front of the bike?   I'm really hoping that there is a way without having to strip the bike down because I really don't fancy removing all the panels...I've never had much luck with fairing retaining clips, I either lose them or damage them.

Is it possible to feed a cable to the battery compartment without a strip down?

I've an early one (2008) and no problems at all! I ran a fused +ve from the battery to a relay in the front N/S fairing, use a length of 1.5mm solid core wire from a bit of mains cable as a feeder / tow wire and follow existing loom.
Or if you have a flexible grabber / pick up tool that'll do the job brilliantly!
Just try and avoid sharp bits or hot stuff!

:goodpost:   I have a  Rolson cable access kit (which is like a miniature version of drain rods) which can be passed through small/narrow gaps and allows cables to be attached and then pulled back through

Can't you just take the one which already supplies the horn on your bike?

As long as the current drawn is not a lot more than standard horns, thats the way..........easy life!
If it's air horn or similar then suggest relay switched fused supply from the battery triggered by original horn circuit, don't want welded switch contacts from extra current drawn!

I run a 50W siren through the original horn feed so unless you're running an electric fire I'm sure it will be fine :-)

Thanks for the replies guys, the horn needs 20amps so its gotta be a feed from the battery plus a relay & the origional horn wires to operate the relay.
