Title: New GTR
Post by: Phill_York on April 07, 2016, 04:50:14 PM
I am looking at upgrading my GTR and buying a new one through the business (I can save 40% of the value from this year's tax bill; happy days!).

However, I hate this year's GTR colours so do any of you know any dealers who still have a black bike left from last year (long shot I know).

If not, I may have to go for an FJR, although I can't find anywhere to test ride it before I take the plunge.

You could contact Kawasaki UK. They may know when a bike sells and also know of a black one somewhere for you.

Orwell Motorcycles in Ipswich have a metallic grey for sale. It's the previous model without the letter box in the screen. Discounted at 12500ish as its not the current model. Obviously my favourite colour as same as mine. They also have a low mileage 13 plate black one in at around 9500

Sorry OC, I don't like the grey one as it looks like the painter has stopped half way through  :mfr_lol:

I found the last black one in Northern Ireland and they were very helpful but I am waiting for a price on an FJR so I can compare them.  I'll probably buy a second hand 2015 black when one comes available on the market if the FJR falls through.

I am the proud owner of the metallic grey one from Orwell,  great bike. So glad I bought it, even after a ten year break from bikes, I can say it's the best bike I have ridden

I bought both new 2016 FJR and GTR in march of this year with the intention of keeping only 1 bike, i have just sold the FJR, the GTR is hands down the better bike, strongly recommend you ride both models before you purchase. You could always buy a new GTR and get a respray before delivery, i did with a new ZZR that i bought last year, sent it off to dream machine. if you are buying new why settle for an older model?

Forgot to mention, if you do decide to go for an FJR steer clear of the AS model, i have done quite a lot of research and seems that the clutchless gearbox is not great, i bought an AE model, there are some cracking deals on A models, i could not get to grips with the suspension and handling. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

It's more complicated than it sounds.  I need a bike with lights and multiple radio systems because of my NEG and training work so a standard bike isn't suitable; I need a police spec one.  I couldn't get the GTR without a customer build which was horrendously expensive and a respray would have made it worse.

I have bought an ex Police demonstrator FJR as they are upgrading their fleet; I am still waiting for delivery.  I have only managed a short test ride on the new version and liked it equally to the GTR; some pluses and some minuses.  I have my name down for a GTR when it comes off the demo fleet which might be the end of the year and I'll see whether I want to change back to GTR having ridden the FJR for a season.

I'm keeping my 10 plate GTR for a while in case I hate the FJR but doubt it will be bad enough not to want to keep the newer bike.

I hope that makes my dilemma clearer.
