There is so much development in bike technology these days, much of which originates from the race track be it on two wheels or indeed four.
The GTR has developed over the years but its been more evolution than revolution and that is comforting, as the big GTR remains a solid and basically exceptionally reliable machine.
Other marques have evolved their respective bikes by adding various riding modes, and lean sensitive ABS etc but I really do wonder how essential they are for the everyday rider, having said that I have enjoyed Cruise control, electronic suspension and even heated seats on past bikes that I have owned, but it's kind of comforting to me that I still love the GTR. I'm not a Luddite but I don't miss them to the point where my riding enjoyment has been lessened by being without them.
Lets hope KHI don't make too many radical changes to the GTR (if any) on future models, time will tell I suppose
:agree: and I Think that the more technology there is the more there is to go wrong.
:agree:
I'm sure when I looked at the KTM1190 adventure last year the salesman informed me of benefit of the multiple computer units controlling the electrics of the bike, selling point? Not for me!
1 ECU is bad enough!
Set of points, contact file and test lamp should be all that is needed to sort bike electrics! :hammer:
................................showing me age again!
OC you've got me thinking on this one...................
If you were to cross breed my GTR and K16 the only features I would want for on the GTR are heated seat central locking and cruise .............
I thought about the ESA and a more compliant ride but realised that it would detract from what I like about the spirit of the bike.................a firm riding howling (above 7k) bike with the everyday practicalities of screen and luggage that is far far more sport than tour :punk:
I'm sure others will have their own thoughts but the basic bike is a very sound machine that has very few known problems that needs no changes ( the rear suspension design is the best in its market sector ) but the addition of some pratical additions would enhance not detract from what it is
PS SnowO ...............yer forgot the Rizzla paper :mfr_lol: and yes I find comfort in your thoughts and comments 👍😃
'More stuff = more to go wrong'
I am sure that argument was offered all those years ago when cars went from manual advance/retard to automatic. When drum brakes went from manual adjusters to self adjusting, when sealed for life UJ's and fuel injection were first introduced. Once the technology is proven then all things equal it should be no different.
A lot of stuff has been introduced through government legislation, not because manufacturers want to spend the money. Things like electronic ignition replacing contact breakers etc came about because vehicles were required to meet emission levels for more than the service interval.
While I do not like technology for it's own sake, there is a logical progression in a car having sensors to employ collision avoidance, to using the same sensors to provide a self parking ability. What I do not like is the dumbing down of driver skills, when I first met Mrs Doebag, she would often comment 'you won't park in that space' well I could and I would.

Even that pleasure of showing off yer driving skills is being denied us with auto park systems finding there way down the pricing structure of the new car market
To be fair, I think most of the technology these days is pretty well sorted.... I remember my dad's Austin A40 would almost always break down about half way between Plymouth and Scotland, but it would usually be cheap to fix. The only problem these days is that if you are unfortunate enough to break down, then usually it involves plugging into a diagnostic computer and expensive parts to quickly drain the bank account.

:agree:
I remember one of my grandads bemoaning the demise of the car starting handle and how would we all survive its loss. Equally the deletion of the kickstart as the back up to that new fangled electric starter thingy..........it'll never catch on etc etc :mfr_lol:
Could you all imaging life without modern technology ?
OC will be along soon remembering the transition from horses to steam trains 😊

:agree: fully........but nostalgia............rose tinted spectacles.........jumpers for goalposts.......sorry- off on one now!
Bottom line - If I was offered an original Tiger100 / Commando / Vincent would I refuse it as it was "old" tech.....I think not!

OMG - think I've just suffered a fettlegasm! :embarrassed:
KH or GT? Engineering porn!
:mfr_lol: That's the electronic system on the H1b (500 Triple) I had, I mean why have one set of points to drive you mad when you can have three :mfr_lol:
Pretty bike though
Funny you should mention points.. That was the first thing that popped into my head when I thought of the 'more reliable' olden days......not. I was always adjusting them on my '63 Ford Fairlane with the blazing fast 2 speed automatic (slow and slower).
Blimey! I thought the GTR was full of tech lol I nearly didn't consider one due to the electronics on them. I miss the smell of a carbed bike too!
I am only 43 but I don't do technology, ok I've got a lappy with a dongle but that's it, don't even have broadband. When you look at how far computing power has come in just the last 20 years, its frightening where we'll be in another 20/30 years.
They are predicting driverless cars on the roads next year too, which is worrying as a biker!
One thing I am pretty sure of will be hydrogen fuel cells powering cars and bikes in the not too distant future. Pure electric and hybrid technology is just a stop gap, once we can find an efficient way of producing the hydrogen we'll be on our way.
I'm waiting for Vodka powered bikes..
Mine runs on rice wine.........it's a Kawa........saki!
I'd rather drink the Saki than use it as fuel. Cheap vodka can run the bikes.

My MZ ETZ 250 was more reliable than my technology laden K75. MZ would run on anything.
