Title: First MOT
Post by: stig414 on March 15, 2016, 06:56:19 PM
My bike was presented for its first test this week and passed. However I did receive an advisory for the front brakes, as suffering from front brake judder (3.3.A1b). The bike has done 8500 miles, full service history at kawasaki, always pleasure miles and often two up with my daughter being the pillion so not ridden with enthusiasm. Has anyone else had disc problems at such a low mileage? I have extended manufacturers warranty, do you think a claim is likely to be succesful as surely brakes are consumable?

I'm not sure that Kawasaki UK would entertain a warranty claim on a bike that is 3 years old, BUT warped discs are a well known weak point on GTRs of your vintage

On that basis you should contact them through your local Kawasaki dealership and tell them that there are plenty other cases exactly like yours that have now been repaired under warranty

My rule of thumb is if you don't ask you won't get ....give it a go

If you have the Kawasaki extended warranty, then the discs, (if that is the problem) will be replaced under warranty. If you get any grief or reluctance from your dealer to entertain such a claim call Kawasaki direct and speak with a guy called Simon, (I've forgotten his surname), somebody on here will know it. He deals with the warranty issues, many, many people on here have had replacement discs fitted, some even having had many new sets fitted and all under warranty.

The secret seems to be to keep the bobbins rotating on the discs and then they are less liable to warp.

Like Steve said, clean the bobbins until they can rotate.
The "warping" will magically disappear.
Plenty of posts on here on how to clean them.

Thanks for the replies. I do the bobbins on a regular basis and the tester even asked what the pen marks were for. I'll ask at the next service re warranty work. I haven't had any issues with warranty or dealer up to now.

I had 2 sets of front discs and one set of rears all under extended warrenty, only things needed from new. Iam running Crosstourer DCT but still miss my GTR.
