So here is my screen review for what it's worth;I'm 6'3" with 34" inside leg.
Standard (2011): ok until speeds rise, then I feel like a 'bobble head', my brother who is 5'10" tried it without a problem.
Laminar lip on above: much, much better, no buffeting but is sensitive to placement and is difficult to look through fully raised, broke my line of sight even when only 3/4 raised.
Puig: Nice looking screen, especially in smoked finish, suits the bike, and is definately better than stock even though it is narrower. Nice smooth air flow but it is a sport sort of screen i.e. its not deathly quiet and is better partially raised and looking over rather than through.
calsci (large): Much bigger than stock and very well made, flexes less than stock or Puig, and as Boomer has said has great optics. But not for me I'm afraid when fully up it is REALLY quiet but I don't like the sensation of pushing a window down the road. The buffeting I get from the stock screen is present again at lower heights, and the sensation of pressure gives me a headache.
I have attached some pics to give an idea of sizes against each other and lip fitted (although a bit high!)
Hope that helps anyone looking at the great screen debate, it's not unique to the GTR either, just look on UKGSer and you'll find miriad threads on buffeting, and as always it's horses for courses.......
PUIG comes in different size's... ie. mine is +12cm higher....than stock
Example-foto of PUIG and stock:
I recently got the Ultra Tour Cee Bailys from NormanBates and it's one hell of a large screen.
Went out to calibrate my cruise last night and it seemed pretty good at deflecting the wind although I could feel it coming round me more.
Not tried it above 50 mph yet, but it looks promising.
The only reserve I have is the sheer weight of the thing! it's at least twice as thick as the OEM and weighs a ton.
What with the rough roads we have it moves quite a bit on the mechanism over bumps and the like, just hope it doesn't fail whilst on holiday! I'm pretty sure they tested for thousands of miles before production took place (I hope).
Well I ran nearly 2000 miles in a week with the Puig and it's great in hot weather, until you hit seriuos speeds on the motorway, the it flexes like an overused credit card, still ok but very noisy, even with monitors in and music on.
I have done 200 miles with the Calsci today and it is definately better, but I can't get passed how it looks, and the fact it almost coocoons you too much.
Trying a Cee Baileys Euro Cut this weekend, lent to me by a chap I met on the ferry last week (I have pointed him in the direction of the forum ;D) so we will see if that does it for me, if not I'll run the Puig in the summer and the Calsci when the dull winter motorway commute comes around again.
Fussy bugger aren't I :D
