Title: Abs years
Post by: Charlie farley on March 12, 2016, 09:31:05 AM
Morning all maybe a silly Q,
Now im on the hunt for a gtr what years if any did not have abs as ill5 be looking at 2007 onwards ? Also the valve clearances need at about 24000 mls and I see bikes at 21000 or so up for grabs just short of big service so is this a huge expense or coincidence ?

Morning Charlie, No silly questions on here

The model year 2007 - 2009 had ABS as an optional extra

2010 model year onwards had standard linked ABS

Good hunting, and don't forget to keep us all informed about your search, we're all nosey gits  (well I am )  :mfr_lol:

The mileage question is relevant as many people do get shut of their bikes before the big service to avoid having to take out a second mortgage.

A main dealer would be looking at about £700 for the shim service

Ok thanks and another Q , are the back and front linked with or without abs ?

In the UK all 1400GTRs have ABS. Only in the USA was it an option on 08/09 models.
Linked brakes came on the 2010 and the linkage can be adjusted, but not switched off.

Im currently looking at an 2009  and wonder if the panniers can be left unlocked or do you have to use the key each time to open them if so is there a workaround ?
Cheers charlie

The panniers can't be left unlocked but you could do what I have done.. Got 2 spare keys cut and mounted them in knobs..

Be aware that anyone can walk off with your panniers if you leave the key in the lock

With our blood bikes we have cut extra keys that the guys that regularly ride a particular bike have one each. We then have one of those extendable wire key ring thingies clipped on our jacket. At each stop the key is to hand instead of fiddling around with the fob.
Just by accident I found out that out of 5 bikes the same key opens 3 of them.
A little game to play at the meet. See how many panniers you can unlock with one key.

That's no fun.  I usually just flip the kill switch to off.

Use the key that is slotted into the fob and have it cut to an ordinary car type key

Correctamundo, any good key cutting service like Timpsons should have a blank available

That's the one Debs.................our local Timpson didn't have a suitable blank at the time so I got a couple from fleabay, I chose these because the dimensions were correct and it was a 'left hand' blank
