Title: Speculation.
Post by: PRD on February 23, 2016, 03:38:13 PM
If Carlsberg made the GTR it would probably be the best bike in the world! My GTR is great and I love it to bits. It has now done 30000 miles and is going strong.  Would it be worth my while to change it for a younger model and spend money or keep ongoing and keep my money. What does the team think? And no I don't want a BMW!

I'd wait until the 2017 models come out...  If they've made significant changes  :mfr_lol:, it may be the time to jump.  Other than that you're basically re-buying the bike with another colour.  They've made small improvements since 2011 but I don't think any of the bikes (12-16) are worth switching to at this point, but that's me.  My next bike is a convertible.

I have access to 5 GTR's ranging from 2011 t0 2014. All with varying mileages ranging from 6,000 (mine) to 40,000 on the older one. They all seem to ride the same and don't seem to cost a lot to run other than services and consumables.
Cant say that about the 4 RT's that we also run but in fairness, they are older.

Stick with it for a bit longer.

I'm not really the person to advise about changing bikes as I'm guilty of changing bikes on an all too frequent basis  :mfr_lol:,

I do think though  that the GTR is a very fine bike which has over the years evolved into an exceptional bike even though the changes/updates have been small they are noticeable

I think you should try a later model GTR and see for yourself if it's any better than yours

Anyway those BMs seem to lose residual value    :mfr_lol:

PRD, the way technology is with Kawasaki and that fact that they are coming on in leaps and bounds I would suggest hanging on until 2030 when I hear that they are going to consider upgrading the shock adjuster which will have been seizing on all of their bikes since 2010.

It sounds too good an opportunity to miss!  :whistling:

I say, if you've got the money, spend it !!

You never know what's round the corner.

Sometimes though, its better the devil you know and keeping what you have will cost less than changing to something that's ' not run in yet ' with no real additional benefits.

PRD I loved my 2009 bike but with the big service due and a rear TPS to be replaced I wasn't going to see much change out of a grand.
It was a no brainier for me
So I shopped around and with the trade in and the grand I didn't spend added some to it and bought my 64 model with remaining warrenty and extended it 2 more years so if you can afford it change up to newer.
Also all my extras fit so it was just a case of remove from old bike and refit

All this makes me smile.  If you can't have fun and poke at your friends, what's the point?
