Hello gents....
I'm about to (perhaps) re-colour my fine black GTR1400... into Perl White (BMW). Before I do this colourchange I need to know a few things...
Would the "Kawasaki" letters on the left/right cowl be unmounted easily- and what about the "GTR1400" letters on the side-cowl? Does anyone know about this?
Please...No guesswork or "I think ".... ;D
It would be some-sort-of look-alike this one... except that I will preserve the lower part black
I've no ideas about the decals but I too want to spray my bike into a different colour.
Edit: might pay these chaps a visit this weekend to get a quote or two
Usually double sided sticky stuff!
Hot air gun normally gets them off....carefully mind!
That does look good.

yup every bike/car that came through the body shop where I used to work decals came off like this, but seldom were reusable as the glue is a one shot deal.
Well... untill now only guesswork or "I think ".... ::)
I'll strip the side-cowl tomorrow and have a look.....
Take a photo and dimensions of decals any going car /sign maker will be able to make up roughly the same set.
...and more nice photo's of "white edition".....
looks more like bright silver ;D
I'll be visiting these guys this weekend to get a quote for a respray:

Dunno.
Pear white
yellow
burgundy
Yellow ? That's kinky.
How will respraying the GTR a non standard colour such as white affect its resale or px value?
Right got a quote today. £1350 (£1100 without panniers)
Have you thought about the coloured vinyl option I beleive it is cheaper than a respray. Never seen it on a bike (knowingly) but it looks OK on the cars and vans you see on the road.
It also allows you to revert back to the original colour scheme when you come to sell.

:o Ouch! For that sort of cash I'll be changing the colour of my bike when I change the bike.
After thinking about it, 1350 is too much. If it was around the 600 mark I'd consider it.
Price for complete re-color into RAL9003 Traffic White with dual clear top-coat, black powder coat center stand and black powder coat for front- and rear wheel dkr. 6.000,- (£661 or EUR 804).
*AND* I keep getting FILE ERROR when trying to upload!! Any clues why?????? (pic format okay... size okay....)
Im currently in the process of buying up spare panels for the GTR, im going to get them painted and then do a swap over. £1350 does sound very expensive .
I used a mobile paint guy who resprayed the front wing on my xr4i , he did it under a mobile booth with infra red heaters , Im gonna get a quote of him. It will be cheaper im sure if he takes away the panels , plus I can prep them myself. The wing was £180 which included paint. He also repsrayed my mercs bumper for £60 and the finsih is as good as original
Id be happy with the same finish I got on my xr4,its really good. plus I could pay a bit extra for some extra layers or clear coat.
Asif, when were up there in the summer let me know what colour you want and I will bring some can's we can sort it in less than an hour no problem..

The decals will not stick again after you have taken them off. You will have to buy some new ones ( very expensive ) or have some decals made.
Deon
If your considering re-spraying your bike , the decals are cheap in comparison.
Most graphic and print shops can make them for you, or get them made.
In my game I have to source them occasionally, and yes they seem expensive, but not compared to a respray.
They will come off as said before with a heat gun and some gentle persuasion, but be careful and patient as the ' proud letters ' will continue to absorb heat once you move the gun away -so take your time so you don't distort the plastic.
'Asif ' can even get his own ones off the web Here (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2x-Kawasaki-Kwikasfuki-Ninja-Vinyl-Graphic-Bike-Sticker-/170837818150) :mfr_lol:
You can't re-use the badges, but you can buy new ones and paint them any color you want, that's what I did.

For my set of green bodywork I did all the badges in a flat black (vs the gloss black with the red set), I think it looked pretty good as well.

Next up I'm doing some little tweaks to my oem black set and having the badges all done in a neon green to match up with a set of wheels that I had powder coated neon green the other month.
Below is a photo-shop play that should give you the squint eye feel of what I'm thinking... :undecided:

The Team Green wheels & badges are fine, but the black needs to be matt.
I thought of using the green on my C10/GTR1000 but ended up using orange and matt-black as it stands out better.

was talking to a GTR owner who had a bmw r100 resprayed by a guy that the Bmw dealership in Manchester use, they gave him the guys details, anyway had a full bike done including a full fairing for £200 , the gtr guy told me it was a showroom finish and when he visited him had various bmw bikes from the dealer that he was working on. A bit more on the gtr what with the panniers but still an amazing price!!
When I had my zzr resprayed I think it was £1100, I bought all the new or spare bodywork from fleabay although I was lucky that I got the whole bikes bodywork for £300, the original blue is wrapped up safe in loft so that if I wish to sell or swap back I can.
For the cost NO stickers were used it was all completed in paint.

I agree, that's why im buying up a second set plastics for the new paint, probly only going to cost about £350 to get everything
Bull.....
There are many buyers who want unoriginal color - if the color is not extreme and very special ....
Maybe it's a British thing Hans, but there is always suspicion that paintwork ahs been done to hide a crashed machine. Also insurance companies are often 'awkward' about non original colours too

Yep dealers and insurance companies don't like special paint jobs over here. Though some dealers are Ok if it's a special they supplied (i.e. Triumph 8 Ball paint jobs)
When sign for bike insurance... do you tell them what color the bike is?
....and final... I don't think a standard RAL color is "special" - right?
Hans, I would love to have a white GTR.
Equiped with some yellow and blue reflective tape on the bike and dressed in a blue jacket and a white flip up helmet I bet it would work as Moses spliting the red sea in traffic.
That white pearl c/w black wheels does look very nice indeed :biker3:

Yep, and it's all held on a database accesible by plod. If they scan your number plate as you ride past and it says it a blue GTR and a white one just rode past, look forward to a chat.
