Playing around and trying to plan a simple route on Garmin base camp for my Zumo 660. Plotted a route from Bilbao via Potes to Leon to salamanca etc using the route planner icon. The route on the map appears to go everywhere sometimes not even showing on a road :censored:, tried to correct it by dragging the highlighted line onto the road we want, but it appears to fluctuate around, now on the wine ...how hard can it be or is there a simpler way :help: :ohplease:
I read somewhere on another website if you select the car icon it removes a lot of the twisty roads and is more direct .
I also use a version of tyre where you can create your route and stops on a PC then connect the 660 and export the file to your sat nav I have done this without problems a few times but they have all been uk routes.
Others on here may have done it for routes abroad

Aaaah the dreaded firewater :mfr_lol:
This is a site that I have looked into and is apparently very similar to tyre, I haven't used it myself for planning a route but it may be of some help to you
Just had another thought, I too have heard that by changing the 660 to a car symbol that better route planning will result, personally I'm not totally convinced, but haven't had chance to try it on my Zumo 660 yet, I will be doing so once the weather improves

Ah ......... Time for G&T 🍸👍
Basecamp is dire but you will find your way round. They switched to a pretty interface with auto-saving in one big database ... totally alien to how most people work on a PC. I think their developers must have Apple heads :(
My unit still works fine with Mapsource, which is easier/more logical to understand. You can still download this from Garmin and install it beside Basecamp.
Tyre pro works well. You can create a detailed route and drop in loads and loads of waypoints, virtually after every junction and roundabout if you want. This can then be exported to the satnav. Works well enough on Tomtom and they say that it works equally well with Garmin

I use it on a garmin 660 faultless so far.
As burchy said with the waypoints. Just make sure you zoom in on the map to place them on the correct side of the road on your route because if you don't pass the waypoints it will reroute you .
I found this out the hard way :mfr_lol:
Maps are so much easier!

............but not when trying to fold them up while riding down the M5.............mined you I may be wrong on this but doesn't the K16 have an auto map folder as a factory fit option ?
So 2017 model yr GTR needs cruise control and map folder ?
Last night I had a shot at Tyre to plan the routes for Spain. Worked a treat and soooooo much easier than Basecamp
Planned each day as a separate route and dropped them into my Garmin folder.
Did a quick local route and downloaded it to my 660, just been out to test ride it and it works a treat.
Many thanks!!!
What could possibly go wrong! Make sure you have a map as well.

I found very user friendly enjoy the ride and check the waypoints :mfr_lol:
Tyre is great and intuitive to use. Most people only need the free version.
Just make sure you place enough waypoints to follow the route you want (as you planned in Tyre) and not the amended route your GPS thinks is better between the waypoints.

I'm glad you said that, I was looking at the Tyre site last night and was wondering if the 'pro' version was necessary for me as I only occasionally plan routes and then only for U,K routes

The Free version is ideal then.
One of the packages you pay for if you view what it contains only removes the adverts if I remember correctly .
Only reason I use Pro ( and its a good reason) is that it came free with Tomtom400
