Title: Goodbye old friend
Post by: O.C. on February 16, 2016, 08:21:59 PM
At the grand old age of 13+ my dog Kite had, over the last couple of months, become quite ill, her hips were giving way on a frequent basis, her liver and heart function were also failing but she remained as happy as ever with a tail that literally never stopped wagging.

Unfortunately the dreaded decision had to be taken before her condition began to cause her distress and last night at the vets she went to sleep.

I'm choked writing this now and I'll miss her very much, but we've had 13 great years together and I wouldn't change a thing......those of you who have pets will understand the feeling of loss.

Here's a picture taken about two years ago in the garden at home.

I know how you feel and what you are going through OC.
Sorry to hear your sad news, it really cuts deep and makes the house feel so empty when they are gone.
Chin up mate, and focus on all the good times you all had together, and of the great life she had too.

Had to do that with my Standard Schnauzer.  He gave us 16 years of joy.  I still tear up thinking about it.  You know, a day or so after he died, he woke me up with a woof.  Only did it once so I know he's ok.  I'll probably see him again some day.

Sorry to hear of your loss OC. Our pets certainly get into our hearts and are a major part of the family. Take solace in the fact that she is no longer in pain.

I've been there too many times and it never gets easier.  I find it helps to remember the 13 great years outweigh these few weeks of rawness until the pain when remembering her is gradually replaced by a warm fondness.  You have my sympathy mate.

We lost our hound in December, relate fully, just remember the sofa hugs and mischief!
They're always with us!

All things in this world end of course,  but what you shared  has happened, exists still and can't  be undone by any power. You will meet again. I hope the pain eases up soon.  In time, I expect a new soul that needs you will make itself known.

Roger, so sorry to hear this, he looks a fine lad. They certainly tunnel their way into your heart don't they?   You still have the pup though don't you, how's he doing as sometimes they pine for their mates.

Let's just be grateful that mecki isn't here to share his condolences!

Understand what your going through, been there a few times now, never gets any easier, we lost our last Newfoundland 2 years ago this April, went 6 months without a dog then got two Newfies together, I know we'll go through it all again sometime, but it's the good times with them we all remember most.

Thank you all for your kind comments, and yes she will be very much missed, and Gill and I will, and do, remember all the great times that we had with Kite.

We have a stunning 19 month old Cocker called Oscar and he seems to be coping well, he's just as full of beans as ever, I'm convinced he's rocket propelled  :mfr_lol:

Roger ... I'm so sorry to be reading this thread .. I,m late to it too as I see its a while ago now. Really sad I am sure ....our Molly is nearly 13 and being a Border Collie she still behaves like a 2 year old and I dread the days she goes off to "Molly Heaven"
