Keith many thanks for posting that. Quite an achievement.
Apparently he wanted a GTR but realised it would have been too easy! Riding a K 16 made it more of a challenge.
Wonder what his average speed was ,in a country where the speed limit is 55mph he must have been knocking on speed wise ,if you did that here and posted it ,they would work it out and you would be nicked , to keep awake all that time he has done well. Just think how fast he could have done it on a gtr , :biker3:

The US has not had a double nickel blanket limit for years. Not sure when it was repealed, many states now have 75 as a limit.
Jim will be along soon to either correct me, or add more information.
i've never heard of the Double Nikel Blanket rule and had to google it, it seems that some US states have different limits regarding speed
Jim, like doebag I await your clarification
OC
You will notice that a lot of classic American bikes have '55' highlighted on their speedos, and that they read a maximum of 85mph
Briefly the state of Montana didn't have a maximum speed limit, but now it's 80mph on the interstates.
Most states still have a 55 limit for single carriageway 'A' roads but the interstates are all 65/70/75/80 depending on the state.
Takes forever to get anywhere as the USA is so damned big. :mfr_lol:

the 70s classic triples that I have owned are really the only classics that have interest to me

It runs the gamut. Most interstates are 65+. I've seen some at 75mph and I understand there are some roads out west that allow most anything as long as you aren't crazy about it, except at night. Most 2 lane secondary roads are 55mph. He could only have done this on Interstate to make it across the country in 38 hours. Bear in mind that doing it in 50 hours or less is quite doable.
