morning all..
just joined the forum and looking forward to "meeting" you all and gathering info..
Names Stolichnaya - picked up a brown 2010 GTR GT 14 on Saturday and rode it straight home from Wales to near Cambridge. great ride and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I also have a Suzuki GSX14 which is very much my toy and the bike I modify/addon to and its got a huge spec. Ive toured on the GSX quite a few times but now the Wife wants to come along ive gone for a GTR to make it better for both of us.
Looking forward to gaining lots of tips/knowledge on all things 14.... Trip planned for June so will be picking brains..
So far I just have a few things on the list..
Some form of lower pegs for pillion - my wife is 6ft and lots of leg so I need to drop them a bit (not the legs!!)
Rear foot pegs with rubber? (why isn't this standard?)
Maybe a better fairing
Adjustable rearsets (seen some from the US of A for $70!!!
anyway.. grab a beer from the virtual bar....
Welcome to the forum where you will find plenty good helpful advice and more than a little good old fashioned banter :mfr_lol:
The GTR will suit your touring needs perfectly and I'm sure that SWMBO will be very pleased with the comfortable pillion seat
The question about non rubber rear foot pegs has been asked many times and it still remains a mystery why KHI don't standard fit rubber ones for the pillion as well as rider
Accessory options for the GTR are available from many sources and you should be able to find useful links within the relevant forum section, in the meantime here's a couple which may help you in the immediate term
Good luck with your new bike, and remember to stay in touch and maybe visit us at the GTR national meeting later in the year when you will be able to meet folk and enjoy the fun and a drink or two

Thanks for the hello and info.. I will have a good browse later on..
cant wait to get to grips with the GTR and get the wife on for a good run to see how we both get on...
Have you thought about changing your wife instead? My wife is a divorce lawyer so can help with that. It's probably not cheaper for you but with her fees I will be able to buy the new Shoei helmet I want ;-)
I'm joking of course; welcome to the group :-)
my wife is a shade over 6ft and German... divorce is not an option if i'm to remain intact!!!
shes also stunning and although many say that shes punching above... I dunno !!!
Fair point. Mine regularly reminds me that if I divorced her then she'd use her professional knowledge to take me to the cleaners and I have to point out that it is therefore cheaper to kill her than divorce her :-)
mine would open a whole new world of whoop=-ass on me... its just not worth the hassle !!!
what I sis was buy a 1978 Fizzy and put it in her prize conservatory instead...
revenge
:185: to the forum. Perhaps you could meet us all this year at our annual gathering in June.
I could try.. I will have a look for dates and where etc..

Welcome. You have chosen the right bike.
cheers... looked long and hard for one..
ended up with a 2010 in Brown.. all 3 panniers and a 2 owner bike (last owner a barrister). loads of history and a few mods like a Hugger and extender, RAM Mount. 26000 miles and just £6450.. storming deal
one thing I would like a heads up on... Temp gauge ...
I noticed that the temp gauge only goes to one "block" showing when riding normally.. motorways at 80 etc.. when in town and sat at lights it will go to 2 "blocks" and then if site for a few mins more 3 "blocks" and the fan will cut in..
Is it normal to have only one block showing on normal riding? is the guage a bit naff or do these things run cool?
The bikes run cool in the winter..
Thanks.. it was 8 to 10 degrees c and all it ever reached was 1 block on the temp gauge..
sat still for 5 mins and 2nd and 3rd block came up and fan came on but as soon as rolling again back to 1 block !!
I though at 1st my thermostat was gone or worse.. removed !
It's also very rare for these bikes to overheat..you shouldn't have much problem with that in England.
great thank you - after riding it 200 miles home and it maintained the same temp all the way I did come to the conclusion its "norm" and instead my worry turned to thoughts that they are just very efficient at cooling
Stolichnaya..
Go and wash your mouth out with soap and water..
The bike isn't "Brown" It is Magnesium Grey..

I can vouch for the footpeg lowering kit. well made, fits well and does what it say
s

Yep it does look Brown
But, Debs is correct (she usually is BTW) its actually "METALLIC MAGNESIUM GRAY / FLAT SUPER BLACK" :mfr_lol:
I'm off to halfords n asking for some magnesium grey.... Just to see what they give me. Bet it's not brown!!!
here ya go

Yep. Brown
it's been called something less complimentary on here in the past :mfr_lol:
On a serious note i think it's the best colour available. Looked hard for a grey brown titanium one.
Welcome to the madhouse
enjoy the bike whatever colour it is at least it ain't green the faster colour some on here will claim blah blah blah :whistling:
They will be along soon :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
I get the same thing on the GSX14 forum. Everyone knows the blue n white ones fastest
the only time that GREEN was the fastest colour wzs when I had one
It goes without saying that the latest fastest colour is metallic moondust gray :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

This aye brown or green it's one of the greys :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
At 6450 quid for a 2010 you can call it what you like !!!
I'd call it a bloody good deal
:185: Stoli and Frau Stoli.  :punk:
Get the Mrs to name it,..... maybe der fliegende kacke? :mfr_lol:
Enjoy the bike and hope to meet at the GTR do in June.
I love my 2010 Magnesium Gray (Brown) baby :mfr_lol:
We have been on many trips around Europe..
Your wife will love the touring on yours,

Flowers are a nice touch, Debs!
:185:
In bright sunlight............sometimes seen in the big sky country of the Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire fens..........
That brown paintwork looks like a rainbow trout with the coloured flecks sparkling in the sunlight. :punk:
The first and only time I saw this effect (the sunshine) was in Wheels car park several years ago.
Correct blue/white is best looking GSX if you can catch one that's stood still.
Please remember that all GTR colours are faster by a factor of Warp 9 than grey or any other shade of grey ............ :mfr_lol:
Also the owners of Gen1 bikes believe their rides are event faster that fast :whistling:
Fun in the Forest is the first weekend in June ..........would love to see the three of you there.
Location: Littledean
Watering Hole: The Belfry http://www.thebelfryhotel.co.uk/
Now if you've found some rearsets ........................game on :punk:
If yer fancy a meet Wheels (P.Boro) does a good all day breakfast ?
Am sure we could drag some of the local lads out with the thought of a full monty nose bag to meet & greet yer
I go to Wheels quite a bit - maybe twice a month. I know the café does a good brekkie but... I think it may have been taken over as was there last weekend and the guy I know wasn't there... change of hands...??
I have to admit (and I may get some stick for this.) but my 1st impression of the GTR was that its not really that quick. it certainly doesn't feel as quick as my GSX14. My GTR is a standard 26000 mile old one with a Blue Flame end Can.. I just remember thinking on my ride home that that I didn't know what all the fuss was about.. smooth, yes. revvy.. yes but quick.. no. hope ive not bought a lemon.
Thoughts on Rearsets - these are on ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301380685833?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Im also looking at changing screens.. whats the MRA X-Creen like?
Lower rear pegs - I think the price of the lowering bits is horrendous! seems VERY expensive !!??
this is my dear old 2003 GSX14.. looks a little different now as ive updated lots of things over winter but essentially this is the Gal
If your GSX14 is what we (US) call a ZX14 then the GTR is no comparison to the performance that bike can put out.
unfortunately the US never got the GSX1400 for sale !!!! I think it was emissions or something but (its full name) the Suzuki GSX1400 was never sold in the states from my knowledge !! shame as its a great bike..
im a member of the GSX1400.org and I do know of one guy who brought a GSX1400 over to the states in parts.. bit by bit and built it up and the registered it as a home made... clever guy!
mine is quite well "sorted" and currently dyno's at 99 lb ft torque and 119bhp - all at the real wheel .
I do personally know of a guy on the Org called Halibag who had a Turbo GSX14 that runs 218 pb ft and 265 bhp !! that thing goes like the clappers !
Only 119?
watch... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sf_uFs2xUIQ
enough said ... (drops mike.. walks off..)
Hmmm. The guy on the gixer wants to learn how to launch a bike!
really guys !!! for a big ole bus that weights .. well.. is a portly bugger its no slouch...
im only commenting that what I read was that the GTR is a ballistic sofa and very quick.. I don't get this impression. I know its not a sports bike and all that before I get lots of replies about bought the wrong bike.. (please don't...) I bought the right bike.. im very much aware its a tourer and that's exactly why I bought it.. but bike for bike the GSX14 certainly feels quicker..
my comment was more along the lines of do I need to get it checked over as mine isn't that quick (to me)
I suppose I need someone to ride it and they can say yay or nay

Could it be that the fairing on the GTR removes the sense of speed you get on your GSX14?
maybe.. yep. that could be it
I didn't really ride it hard but did try a couple of 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear runs to high revs. does pick up really well though.. and a lovely engine note change at 8k (I think) its got a Blue Flame Can and does sound nice when pushing on.. but not brash low down.. sort of "hear it when you want to"
Our bike picks up the momentum in the higher RPM ranges..
What Jim said:- Don't want to teach my grandmother to suck eggs, so to speak, but I had the same impression on first riding mine, I was used to a lot of torque low down and kind of expected the same from such a big motor. The way it's tuned and why it is (in my opinion) such a brilliant bike for sport AND touring is that if you don't want to be gentle and progressive-put some revs on the clock, then just hang on! Of course if you've already done then, then just ignore me!!
I need to ride it more... learn it and learn how it reacts...
thanks all for input
VVT, use the revs not the torque if you want it to feel quick
If you want to feel relaxed use the torque( but you may find yourself travelling much quicker than you think)
Coman
Just out of interest. What is the torque output. At the wheel ???

only quoted figure I'm aware of is 136Nm but I reckon that's output and not at the wheel
Ive looked on various sites and seen 100 lb ft and 145bhp. Not at wheel though so maybe 10 to 15 % loss to wheel.
Interesting
The first generation GTR was 'unrestricted' when compared to the latest variants, however I had one back in 2008/9 and it didn't seem any faster than the 2015 one I have today, quoted power figures are all pretty much the same from the Kawasaki UK site
I'm really liking forward to our trip in June. Can't wait to get to grips with it on the B500 Black Forest.
Speed not important- the feel I got for smoothness was great and far better than my GSX

Really?
Iys surprisingly quick up against the opposition. My nipper rode a ZX10R 2004 and he's no slouch. The GTR will stay with him from a standing start up to 100 mph. Them he nips it into 3rd and goes away. Rapidly
Stock GTR has 135bhp and 101lbft at the rear wheel. Get the ECU reprogrammed and an easy 145bhp and much more low rpm torque is available. Best I've seen on a dyno chart was 160bhp and 105lbft with a Power Commander and the secondary butterflies removed. It's probably a bit heavier than the GSX but after an 8 hour trip on the peage/autobahn your body will feel the difference.
You can sustain some really silly speeds on the autobahn. I did 120-155 for nearly an hour back in 2007. No neckache or back ache, but my brain was fried from the concentration. Was playing with a ZZR1200. :punk:
Who can I approach/trust to do ECU work and butterflies?
I need to have reliability on the work too as its no good to change things half assed just for a few horses but make the bike dodgy!
Lower down power would be nice.
Think Big Alan went to Hilltop garage .........hopefully he'll be along to tell all
Sweet spot for making progress is 6.5-8.5k rpm..........like Boomer said its rock steady well into 3 figures and will sit there hour after hour.
Remember to think of it having a 5 speed box with a very tall overdrive 6th gear :scooter:
Ensure your running in full fat mode :punk:
Your news of Wheels food services is very concerning :mfr_lol:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4-FL_2tF4TA
Morning Charlie
This full fat mode and overdrive thing is interesting. I was not really paying much attention to the clocks but my impression of slowness was in top. This is why. I was overtaking a few times and thought this is WEAK. I saw OD on the clocks n just thought it was a silly name for 6th
So, keep it out of OD if I want the beans.
Also this daft there circle thing. What's that? Comes up when you're just riding. Assume this is not full fat ? Can I turn off ?
Pop me a pm with Moby number and when I'm off to wheels I bang you a text. Saw a blue GTR there 2 weeks ago on a sat. ... You?
I'm in Colne. Anywhere near you?
The daft circle thing means it is running efficiently and economically. Don't think you can turn it off.

Hi and :185: from Lincolnshire.
A little late, but better late than never...........
Just don't forget its a sports tourer, designed to be ridden all day with a added benefit of having the power when needed. Pretty much the best of both worlds in moderation.
It loves this This (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sv3tN_ANVw)
Late to this thread .. Welcome 1st of all ! I like the picture of you and Mrs S ... Honda CB1300 behind you ?? Had mine for a couple of years and loved it but just could not commute through the winter on an unpaired bike !!
Did I post a pic of the CB ?? Or did you see it on the Org ??
You posted a pic of you and your Mrs, and the CB1300 was behind you
