I bought my GTR from a guy in London. When he showed me how it worked he told me to hold the selector (not sure what it's called but it's where the headlamp flash is on most bikes) for 3 seconds every time I start it.  I asked why and he said it puts it into ECO mode to reduce the power.  He also warned me about the weight of the bike and how it would catch me out.
It turns out his last bike was a CG125 and then straight to a GTR.  I didn't understand why you would buy a GTR and then always halve its power.  He also never used the panniers as they were too wide and added £5k of touring accessories (including cruise control) but never went further than Peterborough.
There are some strange people out there :-)

Not even legal.

However, restricted bikes are allowed provided they didn't make more than twice the 35kW limit in their original form. That means stuff with 95bhp or more as standard is ineligible for restriction, however little power you eventually intend to restrict them too.

For your information Phil, ECO mode doesn't halve the power, nowhere near..........it merely takes away the snatchy throttle, improves tyre wear and considerably increases MPG when cruising at 80 - 90 mph, and it will still hit 140 on the autobahn fully loaded ----- try it sometime, you may like it.  :punk:

I too always switch into eCo mode. There should be a way to set it as a preference.

Why?

For the smoother throttle action (not so on/off) and the improved MPG. It only slightly detunes the motor and then only up to 6000 rpm. So you can have the best of both worlds.

Likewise, I always did this with previous GTR and will do the same with the latest

I think anything with ECO in the title should be automatically avoided ;-) I use it on long journeys or for when I'm short on fuel but I enjoy that snatch barking feeling; if I wanted smooth I'd have stuck with my Pan :-)

For snatch you should look to adjusting the throttle cables

If memory serves me correctly we have in the past had posting with regard to resetting the throttle position sensors.......but I may be wrong

It's a personnal choice. I use mine as nature intended............if I was looking to prioritise mpg I would not be looking at a performance tourer.

The Eco Mode is as suggested good for the long haul maximising lean burn once up to cruising speed.

Again it looks to give approx 10% improvement in mpg, but this will vary by riding style / skills / objectives

If you study the rules of feature engagement in the owners manual all is explained
