After five years on my st1100 I am taking delivery of my 2009 GTR on Wednesday 20th. Cant begin to tell how excited i am
Any tips on the bike etc would be gratefully received.
Welcome to the forum Tony, I bet you're finding it difficult to sleep just now :mfr_lol:
There is a wealth of knowledge available on here all you have to do is ask and someone will be along to help, there's a fair bit of p*ss taking too but don't let that bother you as its all good fun
Is your new bike coming from a dealer, what miles has it done and has it got a warranty with it
The main things to look out for are the early recalls concerning luggage locking clips, headlight adjustment controls and rear brake pedal anti dust recall I can't think of any others off the top of my head, although other members will no doubt be along to remind me
Sometimes front brake discs can become slightly warped leading to juddering and these should be within manufacturer tolerance for thickness also. Rear suspension adjuster can also seize if not maintained
Tony the GTR is a stonking bike and is very, very reliable so don't think that my list is anything to be worried about.
When you get your bike maybe post some pictures and tell us a bit more about yourself
Welcome. You have chosen the best bike there is.
Very welcome here
Enjoy your great bike and this forum :punk:
Thanks for the tips
The bike is from a dealer 6 months warranty, 19,920 miles one owner full main dealer service history.
I will post a few pics when i have gotten over the excitement
I was always a member of the Pan clan forum and it helped me out a lot over the years with the old ST so joining this forum after reading a few posts was a no brainer. and of course i am not allowed on the pan clan forum any more now i have defected :punk:
:185: Tony
That milage is good for an 09. Sounds like a good buy.. I part-ex'd my 09 2 years ago and that had 56k on it..
One thing I would like to point out to you is, if you ride without the panniers then Steve (Wolf) will surely have something to say... :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
As OC has said that there is lots of info on here.. Someone will be able to help with any questions you have.
Thats me in trouble then i always take the panniers off the Pan on a Sunday morning :ninja:
:surrender:

Is there a fitting kit for a Monolock mounting plate on the GTR or do you just bolt it on with the bits that come with the plates? I had to have special fittings for the ST but that didn't have a luggage plate already fitted like the GTR.

I fitted a Givi Monokey "universal" mounting plate the other weekend... I managed to use 3 of the provided clamps and bolts onto the GTR rear plate. The same principle should apply to the Monolock plate, I'd have thought? (I could be wrong, and often am. Just ask my wife.)
Cheers

Thanks Paul
What does the plate look like mounted on the lauggage plate? does it sit high?
Having bought a nice bike i dont want to make it look naff!
Funny that my wife says iam always wrong :hammer:

It looks fine to me, but I swapped it for a "Nonfango" plate that was on there - same principle as Givi Monokey, just different spacing of the rear lugs - as the Nonfango top-box that fitted it was old and naff and falling apart.

The Nonfango plate was nicer as the mounting points were aligned with the 4 bolts that hold the luggage plate to the side rails (if that makes sense). 4 long bolts went through the Nonfango plate, the luggage plate and into the side rails. I had to find some M6 x 25mm bolts to bolt the luggage plate back on when I took the old Nonfango plate off.

I will look them up

I'm fairly sure they went belly up a while back
Givi and Kappa are the only real players now. And sensibly, their luggage uses the same Monokey mounting system.
Givi Monolock is for smaller boxes, I was led to believe.

I have a Givi Briefcase i use for my work laptop and stuff when going to meetings so just need to get a plate fitted. it is either Monokey or Monolock. Clever little universal slider on the underneath of the case.
Tony
I can vouch forthe quality of the Heroblobs (Phils Farkles) top box mounting plate, which is superb quality, they can be ordered with either monokey or monolock fitments [color]

They don't do Monolock fitments.

 Correctamundo Debs, I was hoping you wouldn't notice :mfr_lol:
Mind you Tony's Givi briefcase can apparently switch to monokey fitment
I have a plate on mine from phils farkels it takes the monokey boxs it just replaces the stock plastic one and for a tenner extra the monokey lugs are with it .
Blimey £130! it better be good.
Having inspected the massive size of the panniers compared to my old ST iam not sure i will need a top box.
We have planned four days in Wales come May so i will see how i go without.
Bike rides superb, I am like a kid at Christmas.

Looks Good Tony.
Can anyone tell me on the pre 2010 model the center glove box on the tank, when you press in the button should the lid flip up? is there suposed to be a spring because mine doesn't and is very fiddly.

Its easy enough to remove this box. there is a lightweight spring in there somewhere and its easy to foul it . I bet if you take the whole thing off it will work perfectly on the bench!
On mine I have always had to push the button in and the lean on the back a bit for it to pop open.
Works fine on the bench. I just put up with it as I rarely use the glove box.
Manage to repair my glove box, it was a broken plastic lug on the frame where the cogg pushes on. Super glue did the trick and now opens perfectly.
Thanks for all the advice
