Title: Lemmy
Post by: Boomer on December 30, 2015, 02:14:53 PM
Listening to Lemmy growl his way through Silver Machine was what got me interested in motorcycles in the first place.
In the early 80's I got work with him for a couple of months only to find out he didn't ride but loved the rebel image of the biker, especially that of the film "The Wild Bunch". I also learned that Silver Machine is actually about a bicycle. :mfr_lol:
Now following his death I find myself wondering where I would be if he had not become a musician.

So, who got you interested in motorcycling?

I always liked the look of bikes. My dad used to tell stories about riding bikes in the war. My brother's first job was 20 miles away so got a Bantam as was cheaper than a car. So I had to have one! Been doing ever since.

As a kid of maybe 5 -6 my late father used to take me to see 'the scrambles' all those bikes hurtling over the mud and all the noise, it was great, so I reckon he sowed the seeds of my biking passion also riding my mates dads old knackered Velocette around the fields close to my home was another factor

It wasn't until the very early 70s that I actually became more interested and actually involved and at that time I was attracted to Trials bikes (I still am ) and it just grew from there.

My first Kawasaki was  a  ZZR1100 in Ebony Black and Firecracker Red, it was awesome..................the rest, as they say, is history

I actually hated them (bikes) for quite some time.  Nearly got thrown into a farm pond during my early teenage years which put a distaste in my mouth for them.  In my late 30's got the itch after seeing the friendship of bikers on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Told the wife it's a bike or a mistress, her choice.  She chose the bike (which became the mistress  :mfr_lol:).  Bought an 81 Silver Wing in the early 90's and have been going since.  I can't tell you how many people I've met through biking, most on forums, that I've developed friendships over the years.  Best thing (since the wife and kids) that has happened to me.

I was a car nut in my early teens. Dad used to have Motor and C&CC weekly / monthly

Then when I was 15 in the last year of school some of the lads got mopeds as in sports moped Sixteener specials .   I started to read Bike and Motorcycle Mechanics.......John Robinson lived down the road and I always remember the Z1R he had on test sitting on his drive.

A mate got a Puch Maxi and once riddern I could not get over how twisting yer wrist gave so much pleasure without any other physical effort from me.

So a Puch Maxi followed by a BSA C15 a TS100 then a new CX500.. Two weeks after I brought it.  My hero JR said in Motorcycle Mechanics " don't get one just yet till they sort the rattle out" 1 year and 18000miles later as an 18 year old I'd killed it!

So later in life I was an area manager for Lintek later to become Lintek-Gleave and from then a Triumph, Benelli, Cagiva, Peugeot dealer............wrong business partner so let's move on.

Approx 42 months ago I had some life changing news regarding my health.........

So the 6000cc V8 Australian muscle car went to be replaced by a 1400GTR where I met you guys and Debs.,.................life has never been the same since  :punk:

Yes I've gone to the dark side............but unlike others I've managed to wangle it to enable my first true love to be kept and enjoyed .......my Old War Horse.

The dark green beowulfed 1400GTR  :punk:
