Hi guys been looking through the forum and have noticed my 2011 bike is a ZG1400A9F. Which looks like a 2009 model. I'm slightly pissed off because I never spotted this on purchase from a dealer. Have I got any reason to gripe ?
Depends on how much you paid , being the first model it will not have the 10 onwards features such as heated grips and redesign fairing and glove box , if the price was right then it's ok if not then oh dear , I would be well pissed, you should always do your research on the bike you are looking at , it will only matter when you come to sell ,

:agree: and was just about to say the same
Can you attach a picture?

If there is a storage compartment in the front of fuel tank is old model.
can't be certain from that picture but my question is, does your bike have a control for heated grips mounted on the left side top panel and is there a glove box facility next to it, or does your bike have a storage box on top of the fuel tank as earlier models do.
There are other differences but those are the most obvious
further thoughts.........your bike looks great  and if you are concerned that you have bought your bike as a 2011 model and it transpires that it's an earlier model then I suggest you contact the dealer and discuss the matter with him, he will probably say that he was unaware of any model differences, that is if he's not a bona fida kawasaki dealer.
The other thing is that the bike was registered new in 2011 when in fact it is an earlier model, this can happen when new bikes remain unsold in dealer stock for a long time, for example it is still possible to buy a new 2013 model year GTR from certain dealers today
Good luck with your enquiries and keep us informed
Edit : visit the Kawasaki UK web site select options ~~ motorcycles, sport tourer GTR and then choose the various model year options where you will see first hand what changes have been made from year to year, also I think I'm correct in saying that Black was only available on 2008, and 2011 model year bikes
You can clearly tell that's a pre 2010 model from the exhaust in addition to the fairing.
Some would say and I would agree that the pre 2010 models were more robust. I had no issues with my shock or discs or paintwork come to think of it on my 2008 model, I cannot say the same for my 2011 model.
+1 And thanks for the picture.

Old model????
its going to be all about the price you paid, from memory a new GTR in 2011 was approx 12k , id say if you got your bike for less than 10k you paid the correct price
Two tone seat would be 08/09 here in the states, but since any seat from all years fit can't say for sure. Plastic does look like Gen 1 to me.
Guess I should say hello as I thank this is my first post on here. I am over in Arizona USA and ride a 09.
a warm U.K welcome to the forum, good to have you along :biker3:
Thanks for all your help guys, I'm going to stick with it as I don't think the dealer tried to pull one over, more like I should have done my home work. I paid £7995 for it but got £4500 for my old pan 04 bog standard which was a lot more than what others offered. It's got 12k on the clock and does look lovely, really looking forward to using it.

Caveat emptor. Buyer beware.
If it's an '11 plate, then it was first registered in 2011. I'd be asking why it was sat around for 2 years...
My personal opinion is you paid too much for an 09 model. But, if you were happy with the trade in on your Pan, then it probably all works out in the end
Cheers

Hello and welcome to the madhouse :mfr_lol:
A dealer on auto trader a few months ago was trying to sell an 08/09 model imported unregistered for 10 thousand when I was looking around.
I had an 09 couldn't fault it .
As some one said the problem may be in when you sell on or p/X.
Enjoy it if your happy.
Last years model can get stuck on a dealers showroom floor for many years. Not a fault of the bike just everyone looking for the latest model.
It's not what the dealer asked for it. It's not what the px is. It's the difference between these prices that matters that is the price you paid.
The bike looks good in the pictures and has done little mileage.
I would just go enjoy the thrust and fun of a GTR :punk: :punk:
Be grateful it is not a K 1600. Lol!
:mfr_lol:
Most definitely a Gen 1 08-09. Like mentioned the fairing sides are totally different and the two tone grey/ black seat is a dead give away. I sold my '08 and got an '11, and often wish I had the 08 back. Not as many bells and whistles as the gen 2, but the earlier bike just felt better, and actually ran better than my '11.
Be happy with the bike, it is a keeper for sure. tp USA
