Got back from France today to find a letter from the DVLA.
They have taken my Truck & Bus licence off me due to my Mental Illness. They are making a decision on my Car & Bike entitlement. I'm not allowed to Drive or Ride until that decision has been made... What a bummer.. :ban:
Little did I know that was from 23rd nov, so I really shouldn't have ridden back, but what was I supposed to know...
Be careful not to reveal anything to them Debs, treat things on a 'need to know' basis and they don't
And good luck with the decision, which surely must depend on some input from your G.P
Good luck Debs. We need a GTR rider like you.

Watch them Debs I know it's probably not as bad but the tried to stop my Bus/coach licence due to my diabetes and insisted I test twice a day the bunch of :censored:
Chin up Debs, you can always sit behind me or Charlie on a ride :mfr_lol:
Get your Dr involved and with his backing you will be fine.
Keep us informed though.

My nipper has just got his licence back after it was revoked following a crash last March where he has ended up with a paralysed left arm. To be fair the DVLA were very helpfiul. He had to undergo medical, psycological and physical tests and now has a licence to use automatics, cars and bikes. suitably modified. They do rely on input form GPs and consultants etc to make their decisions
The Aprilia Mana automatic is a mean machine.....
I wish you the very best of luck with this Debs, I suspect they are covering themselves and there will be a more measured process over time. I would respectfully suggest that you let your Doctor and/or G.P. know straight away and keep a note of what is said by everyone during this process. No way you won't be back on a GTR before long one way or another. I have have seen that you have a lot of support on this forum, and if I may make another suggestion-use that support, and any other available to you. Like everyone else, I am happy to help if I can.
Best Wishes.
Good luck with that, from my mrs experience with them it can be a long process.
Thank you everyone..
I'm not bothered about getting my Truck or Bus licence back.. Did Trucking for 18 years and got pissed off with it...
I'm very hopeful with my bike licence as my baby does help me when i'm feeling low.. It's great to get out and de stress..
What's a long process Richard? I heard it can be up to 6 weeks...
Debs, have they revoked your :tank: licence? :mfr_lol:
This isn't the place to discuss this in detail as your medical history is private, your GP or the hospital will no doubt have made the recommendation to the DVLA. Make an appointment with your GP and try to establish whether this is a long term arrangement or just a knee jerk reaction.
I understand completely where you are coming from when you imply that the bike is a form of therapy. Fingers crossed for you.
I'm with you Debs I know how good bike therapy can be.
A biker friend advised me that under section 88 of the Road Traffic Act I can carry on riding until a decision is made.
I called the DVLA to confirm this and they agreed.. wooohoooo.
Off out on Saturday with the IAM boys
That's very good news Debs,

Its just taken Donna (my partner) about 6 weeks, most of the delay was caused by the doctor not replying to 2 letters from the DVLA.... doc reception said they had not received them, and when they do get them it takes 4 weeks for doc to fill in the forms as they have to do it on their own time. In the end Donna got the doctors fax number, got DVLA to fax the form to him, then made an appointment to see him.
All this because about 12 years ago when she was in the army, after a 4 day bender she collapsed (what a surprise!), some army medic suggested it could have been a fit, and DVLA were told, she then lost her lorry licence. Since then there has never been anything else, and she has never been examined or treated in any way, yet every 2 and now 3 years she has to go through the whole process of renewing the licence.
DVLA can not / will not accept that she has not had any treatment.
This time it got to the stage DVLA said if there was no contact from doctor who was treating the condition in 7 days they would revoke her licence.
None of this is helped by the army losing all her medical records for the 5 years she was in, so the only reference to any of it is 1 letter the DVLA has.
beaurocratic Red tape, created by non productive jobsworth pen pushers, it makes my blood boil, :death: :censored:
Unfortunately, after the Glasgow Bin Lorry incident, there will be more stringent enforcement [particularly for vocational licences].
