Post by: Don1 on October 28, 2015, 06:30:07 AM
Hi . Can any body help me , I have bled the front brakes but they seem spongy and the lever pulls back to the grip .will I have to bleed the abs pump I changed the fluid but pumped out the old ? And refreshed it that way .

As far as I know there isn't a bleeder on the ABS unit...pipes in....pipes out.  Were the front brakes spongy before you started?  Did you let the master cylinder go dry?  Start at the top and bleed the master cylinder, then on down to the calipers.  You've got air in there somewhere.

i've had the exact same thing. It's like an air bubble is trapped in there. no amount of bleeding gets it out. i pumped nearly a litre of brake fluid through. following all the correct procedures.
I'm also convinced that there must be air between the brake lines. the linked brakes must have a linked pipe. i'm convinced there is no air in the front circuit or the rear circuit. so it must be in the middle.

my lever is a bit spongy and will come back to the bar if i heave on it. but it's good enough to chirp the front tyre with two fingers when riding so i haven't bothered to bugger about any more.

i'd try pressure bleeding, reverse bleeding, suction bleeding if i had the kit and motivation.

but if i was going to do all that i'd strip and clean the calipers and possible fit new pistons and seals too.

Linked brakes do not have a link pipe. By law front and rear brakes must be isolated such that if one fails it doesn't affect the other.
Linkage is done using ABS pump and electronics.
If you can't get a firm brake lever buy a 100ml syringe and push the fluid up from the caliper.
Could also need to clean out the master cylinder.
