Title: NEC motorcycle live
Post by: davetherave on October 25, 2015, 08:47:50 PM
Well it's been at least 15 years since I attended this event so I google it to get some info on prices and what's going on at the event but £17.50 for advance tickets and £10 for an advance ticket for parking is just too much for me and that's not even taking into account food/drink/diesel, so as we don't need any kit that's at least £45 before I even enter the building.

I even looked at train travel................Norwich to Birmingham nearly 5 hours and two changes, so curiosity got the better of me and I looked at flying, would you believe you can't fly direct it's Norwich to Schiphol to Birmingham, what a joke  :censored:

These shows should be in the summer not this time of year (yes I realise it's held now to stimulate the market at the "slow" time of year).

It'll be another 15 years before I attend.

I think the car parking at £12 is a bloody rip off , plus £20 to Get in is to dear also , rip off Britain as normal ,

£10 is advanced car park ticket, £12 is on the day, admission is £17.50 in advance or £20 on the day.  Rip off.   :shit: :single fuck:

Wal at PFM (brakes) advised me to go to the Milan show, it's loads bigger, cheaper to get in and just one train stop from the airport to the event (plus all those lovely italian models )

If you knew that you'd get the money back on good deals / discounts I wouldn't mind, but those days are gone now.
Better off shopping on 'tinternet and test riding all you can at the dealers!
Reminds me.......multistrada......Ducati Volverhampton on next off shift days! Would never have or afford one, but gotta be done!
Still in two minds over M/C Live myself, can't think of any new metal out there, apart from Africa Twin, that really attracts me!
Is this an "age" thing!

Dave.
I know it depends on the weather.
I went last year on the bike it's free to park in one of the halls as for bargains forget it it's old stock or cheap crap the big one like halversons, ruckka only displayed last year and sent you to a stall who had some stock I couldn't even try something in my size .
Helmets I think are too risky how many shows and heads been in them and possible dropped ( just my opinion)

And with the bike it's easy Peasy to get out due to traffic of the nec and traffic in the area

Pross,
thanks for the heads up on Ducati Wolves, but my visit will not be to try, not buy!
However good the MultiS may be, test ride is just to experience it, buying will be a long way off!

I wont be going to the show  :nono: ... It should be free as the dealers are trying to tempt you to buy their products..

Anything new that I am interested in, I can read about in any bike mag or visit a showroom free of charge..

Also re dealers.. I will always stay with Kawasaki because our dealer in Bournemouth are one of the best in the country..

I looked into getting a flight to Milan as seemed like a good idea to go to a show abroad , but as I live up north and not darn south ,even tho there is loads of airports near me ,none fly direct to Milan , to much hassle to have to go to London and cost ,  :biker3:

we did it for a few years and then got fed up of the costs. basically its a £120 day out for the privledge of going shopping. hardly anything going on there that isn't basically a glorified shop . if you have been once then it will be ground hog day. It will be absolute sholder to sholder sardine city and Disney park queues to get a leg over any of the star release new bikes

We went to the bike show last year, but were so disgusted by the parking prices that we parked at a small nearby train station and got the train for one stop to the NEC.  Saved quite a bit but we still got robbed as we went in! :mfr_lol:

The price hurts but I look at it as a day out on a winters day. The bit that pisses me off is myself and daughter had a meal in spoons outside the show and it was £25 for us both. It's not the cost it was the concentration camp portions, I really did feel like throwing it back at them but didn't want to play up in front of my daughter

It was no better inside martyn.
I had a prawn sandwich a bottle of Diet Coke and a plate of chips that would fill a standard mug.
£9.05 I asked if its £3 an item and 5p for salt and he didn't even have the decency to answer robbin :censored:.

I went on the bike to avoid the £12 parking fee they say it's the NEC not the show charging
And th fellow who parked next to me after a bit of a chat told me he was from Manchester a poor ride in those conditions.
And gave me a ticket his friend had won in a competition so not a total loss

As long as all you people continue to pay to visit a glorified showroom, they will continue to charge! Bad time of year for a ride out

They need us to visit the shows to sell us their products, so you can either follow like sheep each year to the shows( yes you get the pretty girls in Lycra, you may get a free key ring or mug, you used to be able to save at least your ticket price on much needed quality kit discounts! Now they only discount the tat) spend a day in late summer or early spring visiting your dealers( free parking, no crowds, sometimes a free bbq) building relationships with the people who will sell and service your bike near to your home.

I was a bit jaundiced about going, but got a ticket from Kawasaki Riders Club that included an after-show event.  Managed to negociate a £25 discount on some leathers and £20 on a hugger for the GTR.  Left at about 7.30 and the guy on the parking barrier just waved us through, so no parking fee for us.  All in all worth thr 300 miles round trip

The cost was the deciding factor in my non-attendance this year, like Conman I'll be doing the dealers later in the year, need to test ride that new AT1000!
If you fancy a good show with plenty of nostalgia try this........
http://www.classicbikeshows.com/event/the-classic-dirt-bike-show/
At the Telford International Exhibition Centre.
Not just dirt bikes, but all sorts of classic road / race stuff, plenty of garage supplies and an auto-jumble!

I went this year ,really only to look at the luggage and sat nav stalls , nice just to see what I will be ordering on line , but this will be the last time I will go , the stalls at the show was a lot less than last year and the year before ,it gets less and less every year , the girls in Lycra just about made it bearable, especially the blonde twins on the mcn stand , there was no aftermarket seat people there or suspension companies there ,I would say it was down a quarter on previous years , £12 to park is a joke , so is £20 to get in , as I say last time I will go ,

  sorry Roger

Having been on the other side of the fence as an exhibitor at the NEC bike show with Lintek and Lintek-Gleave

1 The floor cost charged for a stand is eye watering
2 As a stand holder you still have to pay for entrance to the show and car park passes
3 To turn the electric on for the stand ( a man in brown store man jacket with little wooden step ladder puts the fuse in cost over £400 back in the early 90's) plus you get billed for the power used.
4 My trade customers used to have retail stands at the show and all complained that it was not until mid morning of the last day that they broke even if at all !

This is why the shows get smaller. Greedy show grounds and organisers are ripping the trade and retail customers off.

Skidmarx had a smallish stand there.  Just a few feel along one partition.  Got talking to the guy at the end of the day.  he told me that it cost £9000 for that pitch.  Got to move a lot of screens and huggers to cover that lot, let alone make any profit

You are joking......Metropol ...........we had to travel to a Travelodge in Coventry to save budget cost !

Just what you need after many days of retail rather than B2B interfacing as you well know Roger
