Just got in from today's ride out on the Ktm 1050 , as I came down the local bye pass I came up behind two cars gave it a handful and went from 60 to 88 in the overtake ,right in front of the speed camera van which I failed to see in the dark , I just hope he did not get me and that he did not have rear view cameras on to get my number , will have to wait and see , if I have got caught then hopefully can do a rider awareness course, fancy sitting there in the dark sneaky buggers , :2guns:
rider awareness courses are only offered if your license is clean for three years (I think) /color]
It's clean as clean . Or was :mfr_lol:
If you were caught at 88 in a 60 you'll be lucky to get a speed awareness. I had a similar experience recently in North Wales, thankfully as I approached the hidden camera van and passed him he obviously didn't have side or front cameras as I never got a certificate from them for my speed. I was very lucky and I was bloody furious with myself that I had been so daft.
Hopefully you will have escaped a Summons.
How does that work over there? Over here it's just a fine. Doesn't go against your driving record.
Over here 88 in a 60 will be a court appearance and a big fine and 3-6 points on yer license.
Rule of thumb is limit + 10% + 2 so 68 in a 60.
Below that you may get a caution but normally no action.
Above that it's a speed awareness course if yer license is clean. Otherwise £100 and 3 points.
Above 30% over so 78 in a 60 and it's a court appearance.
At 12 points it's an automatic ban for 28 days or more.
Point wear off at varying rates from 3 to 5 years.
Drunk or drugged and yer looking at a 1 year ban for a 1st offence.
IMHO a 2nd offense should be a 5 year ban and retake of driving test and 3rd offense = lifetime ban.
No offenses captured by a speed/traffic light camera are point offenses that go against your driving record as far as I know. That is, as long as you pay the fine.
I don't believe that there is any set figure , it's down to the police force in that area, I have been told more than once of people getting done for doing 33 in a 30 , I got caught 4 years ago in the. Car doing 86 in a 60 and was offered the speed course ,took 3 points instead , 8 years previous caught by a bike cop on the average speed at 89 in a 60 and 59 in a 40 and got £60 fine and 3 points , he said I was 1 mph under going to court , they can set the limit to what they want , have watched traffic cop programmes where he has set the radar gun on a motorway just to catch people doing 95 or more ,I am just hoping he did not get the number plate as I went by , it was dark , :biker3:
I was offered and accepted a speed awareness course for being caught at 66 mph in a 60 mph zone !
It cost £95.00 for a 5 hour course which in truth told me nothing I didn't already know, I wasn't awarded any points ...TBH it was a waste of my time and money and I'm still p*ssed off about it :hammer:
I still believe that N.Y police were just keen to catch someone that day (a biker) and I was selected, whilst riding on a virtually empty 'A' road at 2 pm on a quiet Thursday afternoon in dry and very clear weather conditions
Wow, 66 in a 60....you criminal you. Around the DC area, I'm thinking they allow at least 10 before the cameras kick in and make you famous.. Quite a few believe that it's nothing but a money making endeavour. I totally believe in them around schools during morning and afternoon hours when kids are coming and going. Other places, not so much.
its always best to do the course, you dont get points on your license ,but as i found out some insurances companies put up your premium if you have done a course,i argued with mine ovetr the car insurance that i still had a clean license ,which they agreed ,but i suppose they are right when they replied you have still had a speeding offence which is recorded but you just opted for the course rather than ponts, so i know that admiral which are part of elephant and a few other insurance groups do charge for awarness courses ,others i have contacted dont, but knowing insurance companies any way to not pay you out !!!!!!
When Asif, Neil and I came back from Keswick this year from the bike meet, despite it being 10pm we passed a speed camera van before we hit the M6 where Neil turned off. Thankfully I was leading so it goes without saying.....none of us were speeding! :mfr_lol:
Kinda hard to do that with a BMW, Mr. Wolf....speeding that is... :mfr_lol:
