Hi guys and gals, when putting the rear wheel back after a new tyre fitment, do you put any grease on the drive gears in the wheel or on the drive shaft teeth on the swing arm?
I just some on the teeth on the shaft , as long as it's not bone dry it will be ok ,
Yes - use a teaspoonful of Honda moly paste - search threads discussing this issue because people use far too much and incorrectly use grease albeit containing molybdenum- the idea is to use a lubricant that coats the contact surfaces and can withstand pressure. If you google this topic you will be surprised what engineers have to hand and why you will pay £10 for a couple of ounces. My friends ST1100 bevel gear ground to a halt from lack of 'paste' although he had 'greased' the splines. My Honda splines remained prestine and silent using the correct product at every wheel removal. Having said that Honda UK no longer supply or use this product in their workshops hence the bike never saw a Honda dealer again. The paste now gets imported from Honda USA and retails through a couple of UK outlets.
I use a brush to put the paste on the gears so it's a really light coat..
Thanks for your replys. Ok Redrat, I'm sold, what two outlets sell the stuff?
I've just checked the web and motocrossworld.com supply the paste - on their list tap on Honda oils and moly60 is displayed - an 85gm tube will cost you £13+ - use a brush or wear gloves when applying as it will stain your pores quite severely. Ive just corrected the web address!!
