Title: Beowulf Radiator Guard
Post by: Redrat on June 07, 2011, 08:19:56 PM
Dealer agreed to replace radiator as the pre-delivery 'jet wash' had bent all the cooling fins - service staff agreed to fit the radiator guard which I had recently purchased - however, the mechanic declined to fit the item as the guard was not only a poor fit but the retaining bracket was twisted out of true with the radiator bolt. His main concern was the guard would have pressed against the whole fin surface probably causing damage and definitely affecting cooling. The general consensus was the item was not fit for service by design and quality.

Did yours come tightly packed in a cardboard envelope inside a plastic bag - still does not account for the extreme contact with cooling fins !!!!!!!

Redrat, if thats the case, contact Beowulf and let them know. They are appreciative of feedback on their products. Which Beowulf rad cover do you have, the silver or black one?

Yeah, I've had mine on a good few months now and I cant say its made any significant difference to the overall temperature of the bike.

Err in a bag in a box, but I wouldn't say tightly packed. I've used their products on other bikes with no problems and , as Lonewolf says, they are always very helpful and appreciative of feedback.

Only 'issue' I've had is muck getting trapped between the guard and rad.

Worth taking off every month or so and cleaning with a hose pipe.

There was only the black available - I think the item was probably damaged in transit - will query the close fit to the fins bit I will visit R&G who are relatively close to me.

The black one, same as me then. They are the newer designs. I used to have a silver one which Beowulf told me was one of their earlier creations. I could never get that to fit so I took grill and bike to Beowulf and they fitted me a black one.

I've got a black one fitted to my 2011, no issues fitting it, or any problems since.
I agree with Winston; take it off once in a while to give both the radiator and guard a good clean.

Well I offered the guard up and the bracket broke whilst bending it to line up with the retaining bolt - spoke to Beowulf who confirmed the guard is packed FLAT and will definitely sit proud of the fins - mine was curved, the bracket bent and the box sides crushed - so we agreed the item was damaged to a minor extent in transit and a replacement is on the way. Thanks for the input, guys, and your satisfaction in general use!!!

Beowulf posted replacement without quibble and it arrived double boxed and undamaged - already slightly curved, the bracket was true and the top hooks better spread to fit over the radiator top seam - it fitted perfectly and took 15 minutes to fit - I used a small spacing washer on the bracket to allow the guard to hang and clamp up without distortion - despite its light weight the damaged original took some effort to fold up for the recycling bin !!

The rad cover as I remember it is supposed to be ever so slightly curved because the rad is curved.
