This ones for ideas and comment folks! For a 2008 vintage.
Can't help but notice, that when starting from cold there are two things that are nagging me, not majors and not worth stripping her apart for:-
1- Metallic rattle for a second.
She starts up fine, but for a short period there's a slight rattle, don't seem to hear it again after cold start.
Is this the dreaded "flies" or throttle flaps rattling under the control of the ECU on startup?
2- Ok, shes warmed up, ready to go - place hand on throttle whilst getting me leg over and revs drop!
Again, on or after initial start up, if pressure is placed on throttle anti-clock, i.e. rolling off, the revs drop way low.
Will drop low enough to stall. Checked throttle cables when side panel off, all seems OK, is there again some sensor / gubbins telling the ECU to drop revs when throttle beyond resting point?
Any feedback welcomed.
They all rattle at start up. That's because the oil has to go back around the engine. Mine does it so does everyone else's.
Have you tried turning the revs up a little. On the left to the bottom where your toe sits you will see the tick over adjuster. Try that.
08 Vintage? I prefer classic myself. Start up rattle is normal. If you don't like (makes me feel alive), you can install a manual tensioner. RPM should be about 1100 or so at warm idle. Make sure the throttle cables are adjusted correctly. Should be a minor amount of play in them. However, rpm dropping when the throttle is twisted is not a sign of a bad idle adjustment. That usually shows when the throttle is released.
A little knowledge eh!
Thanks Jim & Debs,
So:-
1 - assume cam-chain tensioner is probably oil pressurized, so oil needs to be pumping to stop cam chain rattle, makes sense!
2 - never played with the idle adjustment, but with it on tickover screwed adjuster in, no effect till about 4 or 5 turns in when it revs started creeping up, but what d'ya know, forward pressure on throttle not affecting tickover now! So, previous owner or last service had tickover resting on the throttle cables, not the stop screw! Simples - when you know how!
So, wait till shift over at 19:00 then M6 / M54 and A41 ride home on a glorious autumnal evening!
Bring it on! :biker3:
Just waiting for me off days now, LED's to fit and contemplate "flies" removal!
Well done snowy
Snowr0
