Title: Quality waterproof kit
Post by: snowy on August 08, 2015, 10:20:14 PM
This year got drenched on route to ferry.
Gore-tex Boots, r/h foot drenched, delayed leak in from ankle down, 3 years old, used 2-3 times a week.
Wet gussets, both me and pillion, plastic over-trousers on top of textile pants!
Rider - wet shirt front, again plastic over-jacket over textile jacket.
Gloves - gore-tex, ok they're about 7 years old, but failed dramatically!
Is it worth paying good money for Gore-tex lined stuff? Doest the continual flex of gusset / armpit / fingers / ankles just break the membrane down over a few years?
Plastic over-trousers / jackets -  I always though this was the best against the rain,  but our two piece suits, about 7 years old, very little used, appear to have failed big time!
Any suggestions for replacement quality stuff out there? I know it's all personal and from past experience, but any advice welcomed.
Can't afford BMW or Rukka kit, good experience with Revit stuff, just don't want to throw good money away on stuff that fails after little use / long periods!

The only way to keep out water on the cheap ,is a one piece suit , I got rst one piece for £60 bright yellow ,have used this in monsoon conditions and was bone dry, boots need to be good quality gortex , ride mag test all this and give the best results , the rst paragon two piece suits get good write ups , I got my dainese.  Stradon gore tex from motocard in Andorra ,online at £800 , £600 less than in UK , have used this in Scottish rain and was bone dry , pays your money and makes your choice ,  :biker3:

I've used a Hein Gericke Goretex suit (jacket & trousers) for the last few years which set me back about £750 reduced from £1000. It has never let any water in and neither has my Rukka goretex gloves. I'm a firm believer, you want quality stuff, unfortunately it comes at a price.

I used Hein Gerricke for many many years and had been subjected to some serious wet weather without so much as a 'damp patch'  :mfr_lol:

For the last two years I've used a Dainese D-Dry suit which is equally good....my boots are Gore-Tex Sidi Adventure and as dry as the proverbial

My advice..........................buy cheap ~~~ buy twice and get wet in between times

I use a BMW Atlantis suit for touring. Made of waterproof leather, it is cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather. At most, I wear a light jumper over a T-shirt or bike specific underlayer, however often even this isn't needed. I have, on the same day set off in temperatures that were around freezing and ended it in 30 degrees plus, with no need for additional clothing of any sort and, because the suit (two - piece, zip together) is waterproof in its own right, there is no adding of an oversuit or waterproof layer when it rains.

Now around five years old and only used in poor weather or for distance trips, it has remained waterproof with no attention from me whatsoever.

Not cheap (at least when I bought it) it does everything that I could ask.

Have you tried the stuff from Aldi. Had a jacket from them for four years, ridden in torrential downpours and still dry. Grab them when there in stock as they sell like stink! Paid about £65 (bargain).

I've a Richa Spirit jacket and trousers. Wear the same kit all year round except for the really hot days when I wear a mesh jacket.

The Richa Spirit isn't cheap but with the C-Change membrane that changes with your body heat/moisture ( I was sceptical but it works) and the Nanosphere coating (the jacket doesn't soak up rain like most textiles, it just runs off) I'm very happy.

|I have rst adventure jacket, with waterproof layer in, it is waterproof, I never use the thermal layer because Southern England does not get cold enough to need it, its a bit fiddly with all the zipz and layers but it comes into its own on really hot days and you open all the vents, and smirk at your mates who a dripping sweat lol.

However the RST Trousers bought at same time left me with a wet crotch after a very heavy downpour in Spain (the one that flooded Barcelona) like the Jacket the removable Thermal layer is too warm for me so

I may have just got a rogue pair, as the quality seems reasonable.

as a thought My Furygan Goretex lined gloves are now not waterproof, but they are about  4 years old now and used a lot , my Goretex lined Boots by Alpine stars are waterproof and very comfortable.
