Title: Near miss
Post by: Kwikasfuki on August 31, 2010, 10:14:32 PM
Some idiot in a white mini van decided to change lanes without looking today, very nearly wiping me out.

Here's where it nearly happened (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Oldham,+UK&daddr=Huddersfield,+West+Yorkshire+HD2+2TP,+UK&hl=en&geocode=FZ35MAMd4q_f_ynxendnqrB7SDFYMmup2bizGA%3BFaXMMgMdEKbk_ym1an4sXdx7SDFAWcqMW0VoIA&mra=ls&sll=53.935351,-2.098103&sspn=0.001311,0.00228&ie=UTF8&ll=53.555122,-2.140274&spn=0.021058,0.036478&t=h&z=15&layer=c&cbll=53.555201,-2.140213&panoid=wQqgiw7oJ7gxc5ybrJCSEw&cbp=12,212.99,,0,1.08).

It is a motorway that turns into an A road and fortunately we were both slowing to 40. The van is in the left lane, I'm in the right coming up to parallel. All of sudden the driver decides he wants to be in the right lane and starts turning in.  I braked pretty sharpish otherwise it would have been a nasty side impact.

Then I drew next to him on the left lane after horning him like crazy. I couldn't believe it he just shrugged. So at the next set of traffic lights I drove next to him and really gave him some verbal. His comment? "You shouldn't have been in that lane". Had I been younger I would be tempted to put a boot in his door before I drove off.

From now on I'll be recording journeys on my HD pro in case I get pillocks attempting to do a hit and run.

Definately a close call. Got to admit thats one benefit of the gopro, try argueing with that indisputable evidence.

Glad you didnt take a spill though, I'm not sure I would have been as restrained and controlled as you were.
