Title: Crash protectors wanted.
Post by: Longtom on August 02, 2015, 03:54:30 PM
Hi everyone. I am looking to acquire a set of crash bars and pannier protectors for my 2011 GTR. any recommendations please, I don't like the read-ups I have seen on the R&G ones, and want pannier protection too. Thanks in advance.

I have the R&G version on the front and they saved everything when a guy reversed back into me last year so for me there spot on.

The bikes simply sat on the bar when I laid it down, not a scratch anywhere else.

No Pross.. I thought it would be difficult but it wasn't.. Read the instructions a few times before fitting.. I did mine myself.. You will need a torque wrench and a long extension (12") to be able to get to the engine mounting bolts when they are fitted. Easy peasy

If you decide to remove the fairing for fitting, I recommend you also remove the black lower panels too.. These will be the last to go back on and will make it easier to put back together.

Thanks for the picture Debs, I'm looking at getting some bars for protection against drops for my new GTR as we;;... I've had a bit of a dig around these MCE ones and there seems to be some issues with replacing one of the engine mounting bolts, the red Loctite used is a  :censored: to remove and can actually prevent the new crash bar bolts from going in. Did you experience any issues like that?
I don't fancy pulling the engine mounting bolt out and then finding I can't get the new ones in (or even replace the old ones!).

I assume that all brand bars (including the ones made by Ant - who is unfortunately out of stock at the moment) will potentially have the same problem with mounting?

I didn't have any problem fitting these new ones on this bike, but my 09 that had a different style engine/fairing guard, I had to get Kawasaki to fit a helicoil because the bolts striped the threads.

Longtom - did you make a decision on these bars? I'm torn on getting them, the price of shipping and import is just a tiny bit off putting (although not as off putting as the thought of buying a new fairing).

Hiya,
Actually no decision made yet- the carefully hoarded pennies I was going to use had to be used to replace a split central heating oil tank in the garden.....

Hi there,
Just thought it was worth mentioning that my new bike came with US imported crash bars front and rear, not sure of the make.  Thing is, I'm grounding the front offside one out on fast roundabouts, quite disconcerting and I'm gradually wearing it away.  I've skimmed almost through the tube already so I'll probably take them off before they take me out!

Just fitted R&G adventure (crash) bars after watching a friend 'lay' his Trophy down Sunday, £200 at mates rates to repair the fairing. Found the R&G bars easy enough and didn't need to take off any of the plastic. As others have commented that red locktite is hard to shift. Fortunately I have a half metre breaker bar. Finally got somewhere to mount the camera. Safe (progressive) rides all
