Title: Public Service Announcement: Givi topbox bracket
Post by: ant177 on July 28, 2015, 09:15:36 AM
No matter how hard you try or how many different orientations you hold the parts in - the SR410 Givi mounting bracket for the Kawasaki GTR1400 does not fit on the 2015 model year. It doesn't seem to care how many times you swear at it, plead with it or reason that it has taken you an hour to strip the bodywork... It won't fit.

Givi don't make any claims that it WILL fit, they just foolishly assume that people will check that their bike is included in the year range before buying.

That is all.

That would probably do it, however it might become a bit of a moot point at that stage.
An angle grinder would do it as well, Kawasaki appear to have added a fin on either side of the rear frame right between the bolts that I am supposed to use to secure a plate.

Oh well... an expensive lesson learnt!

I was just about to ask if anyone knew if  the SR410 kit allowed the top box to sit any further back (SWMBO would like a little more room) than the OE Kawasaki monokey mount but since I have a 2015 model...the point would now seem to be irrelevant   :undecided:  Bummer!

Just spotted this reply, sorry for the delay! By all means, get in touch with Givi and find out what they say about compatibility. They strongly denied that there was any issue with the 2015 model year.
I must say I was actually a bit disappointed with how they handled the whole thing to be honest, I had had very good experience with their customer support a few years ago when buying some accessories for my old Bandit where they invited me up to their distribution centre to actually check if racks for a different model year would fit.

In this instance, despite me forwarding photos of the parts and the offending fin on the bike they insisted that the rack was compatible. To paraphrase their representative, I must have bought the wrong model or from a non-UK distributor.

I would even have been happy to be told that I was being an idiot and that I was putting bits in the wrong place! They just didn't seem to want to help. Oh well, I went for an SW Motech solution in the end since Givi weren't being helpful. I'll be honest, I'm not overly impressed - the 55L top box is secure and isn't going to fall off (10,000 miles and counting) but it seems to move around an awful lot whilst I am riding and long term I am concerned about metal fatigue.
