Title: Compact compressor advice
Post by: snowy on July 20, 2015, 09:48:41 AM
Looking for a compact compressor to fit somewhere on me beast!
Size is everything, need it small as possible so not to encroach on valuable pannier / top box space.
Any suggestions?

Hi Snowr0,
I got back from a trip over to Belgium yesterday, Was only away for four days buts Mrs Pete doesn't pack light so this is 'my pannier' and I am still able to pack everything I need into a pannier bag with my essentials velcro'd to the inside of the hard shell.
Hope it helps.....

I use the RAC 'compact compressor, I carry it in a small Givi tank bag of the type that fits onto a ring around the filler cap, it sits in there with a puncture repair kit and an extension 12v lead to make sure I can reach the back wheel from the socket on the dash. Loads of room for other bits and pieces and it doesn't affect panniers or top box at all of course.

I bought a tiny compressor for a recent trip to Portugal. First time I tried it, it blew the 10A accessory socket fuse :undecided: works fine with the car which has a 20A fuse...

I actually have two portable compressors. One I bought from Halfords and use on the bike and cars. The only issue with it is that the pressure reader is way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way off.

The Slime compressor I carry on the bike. Only had to use it twice - once for myself, and the other for a fellow biker

I might go have a look at the Wilko one as a replacement for the Halfords one

i wouldn't worry too much about the tyres pressure, if i did get a puncture in my tyre ,i would be more concerned with fixing the puncture and getting my tyre blown back up to get me home, you can always carry a small pen type tyre pressure gauge just to check it is somewere near the pressure.

Just give me enough pressure to get home or to an airline, I don't care if it 20psi or 44

Agree fully, it's just getting that bit in there to save writing off a perfectly good tyre! Had that on me Bandit on the Dragon a few years ago, tyre weld was used on top of a plug and CO2, but with TPS I aint going there! :(
Fed up with CO2 bottles so just wanted ideas on the smallest / cheapest to save on cost and space!
Thanks all.

The AA used the green slime in my puncture it's supposed to wash of with warm soapy water and not affect them when I had my new tyre fitted the tps worked ok after till the battery went a few months later  :censored:

It's written off already as very few places will repair Z rated tyres.
