Since buying the Calsci sail, really concerned over broken screen mount tales. :undecided:
So, armed with trusty a budget angle grinder, a sheet of 2mm stainless and nylon block set about fabricating....well that's what my excuse is! :hammer:
From a cardboard template had a rough size, much cutting / grinding and swearing ended up with plate in a similar shape to original casting.
Then, by fitting and shaping numerous times, it fitted and moves where it should!
Works well, happy with plastic block, two hacksaw blades together makes slot spot on for slider, and when you ask the wife for the Vaseline to use on your baby in the garage expect a suitable response!
OK, 2mm stainless is not the same rigidity as the cast original, but screen movement is minimal in use.
Would the flex of the plate relieve pressure on the slider point where failure of the cast part occurs?.... thoughts :ohplease:
My making a slider bracket by bending / forming the plate, this should be inherently stronger than the cast part......thoughts?
If making again, would use 3mm sheet, in fact I have a piece ready, and the original cast bracket safely wrapped up ready for fitting when I decide to sell the beast.
Any thoughts / ideas on it please reply. :ohplease:
The place where I got the steel offcuts from in Shrewsbury said to make 1 = £40, to make 10, using known good template and laser-cut, £150 (£15 each! :cheesy:)
Plastic block, cost £2 for enough to make 3 bushes. Would just need holes and bending to complete.
Willing to share template after I make it again in 3mm plate.
Thoughts please?
anything that's non cast will be better than what we already have . If what you have made is rigid enough and provides a smooth operation then its a job well done. Id be interested in buying one off you should you decide to go the route

Good bit of diy fabrication, great effort, looks fit for purpose, as viper if you do go down the route of getting them made I'd be interested as I'm sure other members would be !!!

Any larger than standard screen is likely to change aerodynamics and potentially increase pressure on frame mountings.
Your mod looks great, just be sure it doesn't now transfer extra pressure on the screen motor
Nice bit of fabbing.i have the cee baileys ultra domed screen (read barn door) i would also be up for one if you decide to do them. :punk:
