Title: Mallaig K16 or GTR
Post by: STMGTR on June 25, 2015, 02:31:43 PM
Met a guy on Tuesday in Mallaig telling me how fast his K1600 was and that GTR was not in the same league  :rolleyes :death:: Now bear in mind this chap must have been 65 if he was a day younger I would have been surprised.

Anyway cut a long story short. I extracted myself from conversation quickly as I could as I had just arrived on my bike in Mallaig when the guy approached me and started chatting :shit:. I went of looking for a toilet and a fish supper before heading home and had a chuckle to myself about this guys maturity level :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:.

Here is the best bit though who did I come across riding home????  You guessed right Mr K16 himself well a little fun was had by me :scooter: and although I appreciate that the K16 is a formidable bike in the right hands sadly for Mr K16 his were not the hands for the job and I think he might be trading it in sooner than later :mfr_lol:. lol

I ride about 15k miles a year and consider myself a novice rider in terms of ability but the part of the world I was in I know well and to be honest it was a chore watching this gent ride outwith his ability level just to stay in front of any other bike or car :gun_bandana: :gun_bandana: :gun_bandana:.

Sadly I think this chap is just an accident waiting to happen.

Makes me want to be a better humble and more considerate rider though and to remember your always learning when you riding your bike. Every year at start of season I always feel like a beginner no bad thing I think!!!

At that point, I'd have politely said "How interesting, please excuse me while I go for a shit" and left. :whistling:

This from the man with one of the scariest handling bikes ever. If you can ride that H2 fast in the twisties,.... then you are good.  :mfr_lol:

Me thinks the challenge would be to ride the H2 in a straight line  :mfr_lol:

:mfr_lol:  As you know George the hinged Triple is a thing of great beauty and requires...shall we say.... a little respect

I recall passing a couple of guys on street fighter type bikes heading down the lakeside road from Bowness on Windermere to Newby Bridge a couple of years ago....nothing strange you might say except I was on my H1b (1972 500cc Stroker)  I swear if it wasn't for the plumes of beautiful smelling Blue haze I would have seen the look of disbelief on their faces...more so when my mate on his GT750 Kettle then blasted past them ....oh deep joy  :mfr_lol:

I love that feeling.  :punk:
A tew years back I passed a GSXR1000 and a a ZX6R on one of my favourite local twisty roads, Latchingdon to Bradwell.
I was on my 1989 GTR1000  and the ZX6R tried quite hard to stay with me.
I spoke with the Gixxer rider at the pub in Bradwell.
He laughingly asked for a rematch a week later as he was still running in the bike.
Turns out he races so I politely admitted defeat. :mfr_lol:
Local knowledge and riding every day really helps.

Jim is a very restrained gentleman, makes for a respectable Mod.  (Did I get that right, Jim? Thanks for the $20.)  When guys start talking about how fast their bikes are, I politely tell them that my little silver 08 will do 100 MPH in 2nd, and quietly walk away.  Anything beyond that would just be bragging, and we don't need to do that with our bikes.

FWIW, I have a friend with a 1600GTL, and our bikes are pretty evenly matched, on straights and twisties.  If I had to own a Beemer other than a Boxer, I believe the S1000R would be the one.  Now those are aggressive motorcycles.

And of course there is a K16 rider somewhere telling his mates how the only way the GTR rider got past was to ride like a twat !

Oh, and I don't mean you were actually riding like a twat.

Do what I do in situations, where I've had other riders stand there and tell me how much better there bikes are and say things like.."oh never buy kwak Crap!"
I just unzip me leathers......squat...... and pinch a loaf at there feet!
Then ask them if they've realised they just spat that shit out while talking!
Then call em a daft c*#t and be on your way..
Jobs a goodun! :2guns:

Alternatively you could listen to their crap, smile knowingly, wander across to their bike and tell them that "you'd rather shit on your hands then clap than ride their pile of shite"  :mfr_lol:

:agree: Is not the the GTL limited to 134 mph.  Having had a brief ride on a GT Sport I would have to say it's a very easy bike to ride with an ergonomically low stress rider involvement just what you need for 500 mile days. When I got back on the old war horse it felt like a sports 600. Small raw exciting and bags of rude raw power a more intense exciting experience. Both meet what their respective design briefs were after K16 a low stress uber mile muncher GTR an all day ZZR1400

If I had the choice I'd have both. The K16 for popping down to the French Riviera on Friday night and back to work Monday. The GTR for all day raw fast fun with the boys and have the practicality to go shopping on the way back. Both bikes are a blast and hoot. As a pure sports ride for me the GTR has the edge and the K16 the comfort. As for true road performance that will be the road the rider the day   :punk::punk:
