Title: Spongy front brake.
Post by: trousersnake01 on May 30, 2015, 06:27:24 PM
Chaps, just had my wheels off for a week whilst I fitted new tyres. The brakes were only  touched to remove the wheels and large headed lever used just to prise back the brake piston to slip them back over the brake disks. However, my front brake now needs a few pumps to get normal pressure otherwise i haveto set the brake lever to its hardest setting and then I get normal ish pressure pulling it half way in. What do you think has happened.

have you ridden it yet? or just worried about its feel, I cany see how you could have got air in.

can you see both sides of the calipers moving in and out?

I agree with Viper, I can't see how it can have air in the system. You might just need to ride the bike to bed the pads back in.

Yes did 60 miles on it today,  really annoying as they were excellent before I popped the wheel out,  it's about time I bleed the system anyway,  that's what it feels like,  air in the system.

Although if it was air it wouldn't stiffen up after a few pumps,  it would stay shit

You will have pushed some crud back up into the master cylinder and it is blocked.
Sorry, but you may need to strip and clean the master cylinder.
I had to do the same with my clutch master cylinder.
I then pushed fresh brake fluid up from the slave to the master cylinder and that coupled with a through bleeding did the job.
Good luck, hopefully a bleed through with fresh fluid will clear it.
