Title: Fettling again!
Post by: snowy on May 14, 2015, 09:42:29 PM
First real ride today with the good lady on the back.
Couldn't get over that I was suffering dead hand again, must be position I adopt when pillion on board.
Realised that the bike I had a long test ride on had risers fitted.
Saw the cost of risers on line................not paying that for something that may not even work!
So, into garage I go, found a block of 33mm deep aluminium, bring it on!
Believe me, shaping 33mm deep ally block is not the easiest, wish I still had the kit in my Dad's old workshop, band saw with a metal cutting blade........if only!
Still, after much drilling, sawing, angle grinding and screwing (6mm tap stylee....... :embarrassed:) two lumps of ally vaguely matching the shape of risers appeared!   :hammer:
Had to lift the brake and clutch hydraulic unions, just drilled and tapped 6mm threads into the new risers, sourced some longer 8mm s/steel bolts to mount it all, the job was done!
Ok, as said before, my shaping skills ain't the best, but not too far off compared to the bar mounting flange contour, and all in cost £12 for the ally that could make another 4 blocks, and a couple of grinding discs, job's a good 'un!
Pics of fitted blocks below, worth having a go if you have the tools!
Will be riding back to dealers tomorrow to gets tyre pressure sensors sorted, can't wait to see if latest bodge.....sorry.....mod.....has worked!
