Title: Wanted.....knowledge or bits!
Post by: snowy on May 07, 2015, 11:05:18 AM
Deffo looking for.......
1-GPS mount, had an SW Motec one on my S10, GPS above the clocks on screen screws - mutts nut! Are GPS mounts on the GTR all using the bar mounts or RAM on the lever bolts? Prefer it higher and central!
2-Givi plate - have to mount the faithful maxia for two lid capability, either buy a new specific Givi Plate and bracket (do you really have to drill out rear fairings..... ) or mount my old Givi universal plate.
Did the latter to save pennies, bike mount says 10kg, (of course we never go over that) same as Givi, anyone done the same and any hassles?
3-Tankbag - Have a Bagster from previous bikes, obviously need a new cover, Anybody know if the Bagster Easy mount works on the GTR? If not, is the tank cover good and secure, where to you strap it to? Anyone have one they want to shift?
Issue is If I have to spend £70 - £120 on a tank cover that will buy a good Givi bag and tank lock!
4 - crash protection - can only see R&G bits, if the beast goes over, what takes the damage? Is it swing arm, fairing and forks? Are there crash bars for the >2010 GTR?
5 - Screens......I know we are all different, different heights / postures / helmets etc, but in the sub £150 range, which seems the most effective at turbulance removal? I'm 5'11" and use a Shoei Qwest, standard bars and seat..
MRA - not getting good feedback me thinks overall?
         Puig - seen no reviews!
Powerbronze, good write ups and price - looks a possible
Givi - no reviews seen The Givi Airflow is the best screen I've ever used, just not available for the GTR
Calsci - seems good but is it really worth that money?
Cee Bailey....as above, but which one / size is the best compromise?
Anyone in the West Mids have an aftermarket screen that I can have a test ride on?

Any help or assistance greatly appreciated!
Loving the bike, new smiles and chuckles on every ride!

Sat nav mount, this is the one I used firstly on a Zumo 550 and then the Zumo 660. I've included a photo of the connection leads, don't let any dealers tell you, you have to splice into some wiring. The connection leads are under the left fairing.

I've got exactly the same Givi plate as you have there, only I mounted mine a bit further forward so there's no so much overhang.  Takes my Givvi box without complaint and still room for a pillion and to be able to get the seat off.  I have wired the stop light switch in as well, connecting to the rear lbrake lights

All works fine for me, fully loaded!

I went with the RAM mount on the lever bolts. If you used a mount on the handlebar bolts I'm not sure you'd see the sat-nav screen over the top of a tank-bag.

I've also just got rid of my Givi Tanklock bag and gone down the Bagster route. Thank you Ebay!

As for the screen, I'm awaiting delivery of my Puig - again, Ebay. I'll let you know how I find it (although I'm 6'4" and not sure anyone makes a screen tall enough to keep the wind-blast off my head)

Cheers

screens , ive had 4 off your list , all you need to know is the bigger the better, forget all the wind tunnel design, a flip top, vents cut in , they all make a minimal almost un noticeable difference. Ive got the calsi xl, big and daft but does the job brilliantly

I am 5-11 same I you have a shoei lid ,I found the screen off the pre 2010 models works best for me as I do not get the flapping noise I did with the standard screen , also if it rains I just up it with the electric screen to keep the worst off ,

Tried it once with a BMW outfit.........never again........failed the apprenticeship........classic left hander.......ended up, at much cost to the NHS and personal beauty.......trying to head butt an Arctic flatbed trailer on a roundabout!
Never again, need to swing at my age!  2 wheels only and sample the angles!

For crash bars Ant on here a member makes them contact him for a price  in the parts and farkels list.
I think it's under AC-LRP I have Kawasaki slider ones on the front around the £400 mark.
And MC enterprises from across the pond   ( they call them canyon cages ) on the rear to protect the panniers.
With shipping the rears was about £ 140-£180 with import tax and handling fees :censored:

I have the MC Enterprises cages as stated above. They work and for me, have paid for themselves already.
