That makes sense, then.  I was thinking we had a coolant temp gauge although I think I remember someone wanted to add one with degrees instead of bars.

Does your 08 model not have air temperature choice on your dash display ?
2010 models onwards have it.

Gen 1's (08-09) don't have that feature.  We don't care what the temperature outside is..

Why?  I've got heated gear, freezing doesn't concern me.  However, I don't ride in any kind of precipitation event that may turn to ice and snow.  That's why I have 4-wheel vehicles.

Why? you answered it Your self. It give you a good indication if you can expect ice. Specialy at this time of the year when temprature can be Nice in the sun but in deep vallys and other ares With little sun can be below freezing. I dont want to drive a 4 wheel vehicles another month or two.

Get a cheap inside outside fish tank thermometer, that way you can put the outside probe in the air flow away from the cockpit heat

I like to be aware of the air temp ( the gtr panel calls this outside temp, haha), so im with you

on previous bikes ive got the cheap ebay digital fishtank display ,

this one is waterproof as it goes inside the tank
