Title: Zumo 550
Post by: GTRpilot on March 24, 2015, 09:44:55 PM
My Zumo 550 has been working fine but now when you press the button for "Address" the screen freezes  and nothing else works until you turn off / on again. if you don't press the address button everything else works ok. Tried all the resets and taking out the battery to no avail.
Any ideas or is it going to the GPS god in the sky.
Thanks.

Contact Garmin for advice, they'll sort it I'm sure. Their customer service is fabulous.

ive just googled this problem for you and there is a soft reset which is

hold power key, press + key

most problems are sorted by completely removing battery 6mm torx bit required, but you have tried this?

firmware update freely available on the net but speak to garmin first before you do it, but heres the link anyway

Garmins reply.

"Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
Unfortunately if the steps provided do not resolve the issue then we are very limited as to what we can do for this unit.
As a company, we are continually innovating and striving to design the next product. This is so that we can continue to offer cutting edge technology. With the advances in technology, none of our products can be made future proof and eventually will become an unsupported/discontinued product at some point and this is what has happened on this occasion.
The device you require is no longer in our stocks and due to it now being discontinued we do not plan to manufacture any further devices of this kind".

Please help us improve the service we offer you by taking our Customer Support survey. Please click the following link:

I completed the customer support survey....perhaps not to their liking

My Zumo 550 started off not responding like that and went to totally unresponsive. The screen digitizer had failed, this post was very useful as a tutorial http://www.gt-rider.com/thailand-motorcycle-forum/showthread.php/33909-Replacing-Garmin-Zumo-Touch-Screen-Do-it-Yourself

I replaced both screen and digitizer and all fine again, may not be your exact issue or may be related....hope this helps.
