Chaps,  has anyone fitted hand guards to protect from the cold wind

I've always found it easier to just get a decent pair of gloves. Despite having heated grips on the GTR and the Beemer I wouldn't be without my Rukka Atlas gloves for the chillier days.

I don't think hand guards will fit on the GTR unfortunately, they will hit the fairing long before the bars have reached full lock in either direction.

I use the hand wings made by Bill in the US ( http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=920.0 ) and they are superb. Really well designed, and keep a good amount of the wind off.

Personally, I also find that electrically heated gloves (I use Gerbing) are infinitely better than relying on the heated grips which only warm the palm of your hand, leaving the rest to freeze.

Martin.

I looked into fitting guards but they blocked a fair portion on the mirrors from my line of sight. The wings look promising.

I agree with Steve .. a decent pair of gloves is a must BUT there are plenty of Couriers and Knowledge Boys in London who fit those mitty things for the winter .. made by "Toura" something ... ?? NOT pretty but clearly very good as they are most popular !
Anyone help me with the real name ??

Compared to the FJR1300 I used to ride, I rarely get cold hands on the GTR. I find that the mirrors deflect most of the wind, so much so that I can comfortably ride with summer gloves when the temp is 5C or above.

With the FJR, my hands froze even on short journeys. I put a pair of Barkbuster Storm covers on, but they didn't make a massive difference if I'm honest. Heated grips made the most difference.

If you have risers fitted this will change the wind flow over the mirrors could this be the cause? Oh and I don't wear thick gloves when using the heated grips I find that they prevent the heat penetrating the hole hand.

I had a look at fitting hand guards, interfere with mirror view too much and as previously said, hit the bike.  Tried hand muffs, but were taken off before i got to the end of the drive !!  had trouble accessing controls.

Decent gloves and the wings are the best option, especially if you have risers.

Ive adapted some clear guards for my FJR, which are for the CT, which work a treat.

Got it ... The make I was thinking of was " Tucano Urbano " .... They do heated muffs too but not sure how good that would be ... I think just the Neoprene ones would offer enough protection !
