Title: Seized Rear Suspension
Post by: lizard555 on February 12, 2015, 05:21:33 PM
Hi Guys,
My rear suspension is seized. I mean the knob cannot be turned. Only with a tool. Although not sure if it really affects anything. Is there a way to fix this (inexpensive)?

Thank you!

Safe ride!

Cheers :-)

i had the same on mine,i unbolted the cylinder, suspended it upside down & applied WD40 so it went down the side of the cylinder, into where the back adjuster is.i left mine over night, then refitted it & it seemed to turn okay, another tip is turn it occasionally.remembering how many click's you turn it so you can adjust to where it was before.hope this is of help to you.

the post 2010 bike has a slightly different adjuster  to the video and sealed, although the wd40 advice should work regardless

Mines got repaired under warranty although warranty had expired by 3 months so it must be a common problem.

All the grief of fixing them, soaking them in WD40/or oil, and all that :shit:    can be avoided by simply  stretching a balloon over the adjuster body so stopping the shite getting in in the first place.

It is exactly the same pre-load adjuster on my Versys 1000 which has done 25,000 miles, every single one of them whilst a balloon has been in situ. And the adjuster still works perfectly. By 25,000 miles the GTR had 3 replacement shocks. The balloon fix sounds a bit naff  BUT it costs nowt and it WORKS.
