I'm aware there is a Facebook page for GTR owners but it's managed or it's administrator is Korian, based in Koria & most of its subjects & topics are Korean!
I'm not interested in Korea..... Are you?
Does anyone else want a Uk GTR Facebook page?
Do you guys like Facebook?
Would you use it?
Would you like to see photographs of ride outs etc..... Because Facebook is so easy to use as opposed to this forum....
Do you want more ride outs locally?
Should we start one up?
Personally I'm more than happy with the excellent work being done on this forum and the administrator is a top bloke - I'm sure I would look at a FB page but don't see me leaving this place any time soon.
:biker3:
I agree with what Pete said..
I am on the US concours 14 page. I find that one so much better than the GTR one.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/Concours14/
Me too debs !
Its cool , Why not joying this one... So get more info and contacts ... We all sameminded ...
I enjoy both this site and the fb page :punk:
:agree:
Facebook is good as a quick up date thing. Almost as an ongoing daily diary and it is easy to post photos on there, BUT unlike this forum, you can't go on Facebook and search for a particular past topic.
For example, if someone posts a photo on Facebook of how to change the TP Sensors, unless you see it at the time, it means endless scrolling through old posts to find it.
An active forum such as this turns into more like an encyclopedia of topics rather than just a whimsical diary.
I use Facebook for my training school for continuous up dates and news but it's not something you could then search. It is more of a point of contact to keep in touch with former and potential clients.
A GTR Facebook page might be a useful addition but certainly not a replacement for this forum.
I wouldn't use FarceBook, moved over to Google+ years ago and haven't looked back.
There is a Google+ GTR 1400 Community page (https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/117145256590457580630), but not a lot is happening there. Better of just searching (https://plus.google.com/u/0/s/GTR%201400).
Love this forum, hate Facebook, however hard you try it seems that loads of rubbish you don't want keeps turning up, it's all losers and poseurs.Although useful for getting info. I would find it useful if members on this forum could be organised in areas, counties or whatever as it would be nice to get together for a run out sometime, maybe at short notice. There are a great many to scroll through.I appreciate there are groups on here and enjoy their banter but I am a bit worried about just messaging someone out of the blue (it's an old fashioned manners thing, I am a Very Old Person).
Hope you have a brilliant New Year and got what you wanted(as opposed to needed) for Christmas.
I set one up 2 years ago , now with 780 members, me and oliver decker are the administrators, some good stuff does get posted, there are a few on FB so I wouldn't bother setting another one up

Mac, I'm a little taken aback by your post. The fact that a FB page exists for GTR owners and it is managed by a Korean in Korea and most of it's topics are in Korean is irrelevant. Remember Google Translate is only a few clicks away.
I'm not a Facebook fan so it's not something which would appeal to me personally but I appreciate that many can't survive without FB. You say that FB is easy to use as opposed to this forum, in what way could this forum be improved to make it easy to use as I thought it already was easy to use? If it could be improved please advise......

Charlie, do we fall into this category? Some of the best people I've met (or not), have been through these types of forums.

This Jim is the first forum I've joined (yours is the second) and to start with I felt outside my comfort zone...........unsure of the rules of engagement, not knowing were boundaries lay.
Everyone made me welcome in their own way and I've found PM's to be the way of asking questions making friends and generally enriching life
So Longtom from the forest don't be shy of sending a PM or two.............Who knows next time I'm in Mitcheldean I may have to take you up on that cup of tea my friend............. :mfr_lol:

Well Jim as we are both introverts who work hard on our extrovert facades we probable do..................(Is it now that you hit me with your hat again ?) :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
It isn't Kim Jong Un team hacking the FB GTR site is it?

im an avid facebook user and also an active forum member, to me the 2 medias are very different and I get different things from both.
Things on here are more personal and friendly and the facebook is a great way to see what people do with their GTRs from afar, you we are all very similar you know , where ever we come from.
Facebook is much easier for posting pictures for the non technically minded , that is an advantage, facebook suits the smartphone generation much better .
There's plenty of GTR Facebook pages. This is the one linked to this site

Lol didn't realise you'd set one up as well
I keep my site clean from all the spam, I go on every day and delete the rubbish people post , in its easy to see their intention before you add them
I think people are a little sensitive about this forum.
I didn't ask any questions like how could it improve or why replace it....
I haven't critisiced the forum I've just suggested a Facebook page... Because it's easier to use.. fact!
The FB group could be a closed group so you would have to apply to join, then you don't get any wollies on their posting spam etc.
Photographes can be uploaded in seconds, I.e you snap a shot & hit load & bam it's on the site.
You get updates directly to your smart phone, I.e. I'm out on the bike in the midlands & you can pop a post up saying I'm in Nuneaton anyone fancy going for a spin & bam you get that on your smart phone... I'm all about riding & not sitting in tapping away on my PC....
I think from the comments that the people who ARE critisicing Facebook probably never use it so don't understand it.... But please don't get me wrong I'm not here to support Facebook at all, I couldn't give a monkeys about it, I'm just suggesting that twenty times a year without any organisation riders of the mighty GTR could meet up & bimble around together, like minded folk & all that.
With regard to Korea & the google translate, I think Wolfe your missing my point..... I couldn't care less what they are doing but sometimes wish I lived there because they clearly have a buzzing GTR community over there with bi-weekly meets & guys riding together.... Lots of photographs so it shows people what they are missing.... It then makes people want to go on the next meet..... And numbers increase.
I think if people joined a uk GTR group & used it to communicate about ride ours etc, it would be very engaging & useful.
Another point with forums, how many people actually engage with it? In my exspereance most just read & sit back whilst a small minority group are very engaged & write away every day..... Have a flick through the posts on here & I think I would have made my point..... Facebook is easy peasy you can engage by just liking a pic or a post.... I like it because it's easy.
Remember I'm all about the riding & not this tip tapping writing on my PC......
There's some good points there Mac.
I can see where you are coming from. More and more people are using Facebook but I wouldn't want to see this forum go down as a result.
I'm in a closed group for something else on facebook and it seems to work quite well for that but that is not in 'competition' with any other forum or page.
Facebook would certainly be a good extra but would users then forgoe logging on here as a result.
I guess there's only one way to find out....... Fiiiiiiiight !!!!!
TBH , if you go and set up yet another GTR facebook page, you will see hardly any activity, Ive had my site for 2 years now and have 700 members, take out the spam which I have to do on a daily basis , its a real pain in the butt, take out the continual pics advertising by the Malaysian gtr club , you are left with jack shit , there is much more activity on here .
The real truth is the gtr is such a low sales volume bike coupled with the older age group ownership who are less likely to be on FB and forums , there just isn't the traffic for a club or a busy media forum.
Im also on the Usa ZRX site, now that's busy and a great place to hang out , the bike has sold in huge volumes to the younger modify brigade which equals internet traffic.
Hi Mac
A closed Facebook group works for me.In fact I was posting elsewhere a while back about contacting members on, maybe, a regional basis to organise trips out etc. I do fall into an older demographic category but I do actually understand Facebook, I still use it for business and belong to one closed group. I made a conscious decision to abandon it as far as I could because of personal reasons and I don't want to be friends with people I've never heard of and receive all their rubbish. I would join a closed group but would still post on this site so I don't see a problem tbh.
I've been in rome for new year & am still here but on my return to the uk I'll set a Facebook page up & see where it goes.... I've also popped a post up on the Korean GTR Facebook page & it's been received very well by riders in the uk.
I dont do Facebook, never will, just don't have the time and doesn't interest me.
This forum and any other is just about enough. Would rather talk to someone face to face.......
Mac, perhaps I am a little sensitive about this forum and rest assured I make no apologies for being so. I've seen this forum grow from strength to strength over recent years and I'm proud to have been a part of it as it grew.
Regardless of my current bike, I still wish to be associated with this forum and I will support it in any way that I can until it no longer exists, (unless I pop my clogs first). :sweatdrop:
I don't do FB, I detest it with a vengeance and can not understand peoples obsession with it and trust me some folk are obsessed with it and live their lives by it.
Anyway, apart from that, yeah give it a go, sounds like a crackin idea. :mfr_lol:

I have had a look at the GTR Facebook page..... And she's not THAT ugly.
I've even been tempted to enter her myself a couple of times!
I've up loaded a couple of photos and whilst most of them get 'liked' by people with names I can't pronounce (and I dot mean Welsh names either) it is far easier to up load photos on there than it is on the several forums that I have joined.
If there was an easier way to up load photos on here I think there might be quite a few more ride out report posts and things like that, including a couple of photos to tempt other members.
But that's the point it is easy to upload photos on here. Even Rusty managed it so it must be mega easy. :mfr_lol:
Facebook has too many 'strings' attached to it for my liking. I have a Facebook page but hardly ever log onto it. There's a few pages I visit on let's say a monthly basis and occasionally will visit a vendor's page. I prefer the forums where there are no 'strings'.
I hate the intrusive personal information that FB collects to pass on to others and the very public way you can loose your identity to others. Every time I look at my page it tells me of my birth date. Like I'm going to forget that ! Others do not need to know so why force one to have to display it ! Yes I do know of the privacy settings. By the time I've filled in all the info they ask for I might of well invited the web to rob me blind.

It's too late, Charlie.
As a social experiment I've just looked at Charlies Face Book profile. You can learn so much about a person from doing that. :whistling:
I now know that he lives at 123 Letsbe Avenue, Mayfair in London. He's described his interests as flower arranging, origami & climbing mountains. His status says that he is currently training for a triathlon which he expects to win. He is Chairman of ICI and also has various business interests in Bangkok. I'm a bit concerned about that one, there was a link to a website for that pastime but I feel the FBI could be browsing it too so I left well alone!
Is this your profile Charles or have I mixed you up with some other geezer.

One of my webmail accounts had a profile that said I was Bozo the Pixiekiller. It listed my hobbies as pixie kiling, pixie maiming and cleaning my pixie guns. Just a bit of nonsense but I was contacted by a young lady who asked if I would like to go out on a date. Apparently she liked my sense of humour. I politely declined.
