Title: Chroming
Post by: kaw002 on November 12, 2014, 12:06:00 PM
Hi, has anyone used this lot http://www.brooksuspension.co.uk/best-sellers-2/fork-rechroming-for-stanchions-both-legs.html for chroming? The price seems good but nobody I know has heard of them, any thoughts?

Not a very intelligent or good bank robber..... Advertising it on a forum and riding a GTR...

If I was a bank robber, I'd be riding a H2R and have a selection of expensive bikes to enjoy on every occasion, including robbing banks! Quick getaway if you know how to ride it properly!   ;-)

I could never be a bank robber on the C14.  Takes too much time to get the gear back on after you try to get away and then I'd forget something like my gloves or wallet or business card.

Thanks for all your hospitality guys! I spoke a lady at Brook Suspension yesterday called Ellie, seemed helpful. Im going to send my forks for rechroming and a rebuild, it worked out 140 quid for the chroming and they only charge 120 for a full strip down and reseal, so im going to drop them in on Saturday. I will let you know how i get on. PS: my get away bike would be a ZX6R  :mfr_lol: :lipsrsealed: :gun_bandana:

More to the point why are the stanchions in need of re-chroming after a relatively short life ? I sort of know the answer as the bottom of my 2010 tubes has a very light pit - most probably due to a bit of road salt not washing off. I reckon the "hard" chroming done now isnt a patch on the standard that was done yesteryear.

Remember that the chrome plate is porous - its the integrity of the barrier seperating the chrome and steel (the bit that rusts) that fails and leads to the pitting - there no such thing as surface rust by the way - unless it aint plated !

Thanks for the tip - a company called Philpotts quoted £168 for a pair - that more than I paid for one of my resto jobs for 'evans sake ! For any decorative (triple plate) chrome - not forks I can recommend a brilliant company near farnham.

welcome along kaw002.

Try Vernon Moss in Brighouse, I have used them several times over the years for my classic show bike requirements and they have always been superb

Hi Guys! Just got my forks back from Brook Suspension, pleased would be an understatement. I got them to do all the work for me, so they rebuilt them and re chromed both legs to solve the pitting. The £119.99 included oil and oil seals and there weren't any nasty surprises, they are back in the bike and feel amazing! I plucked up the courage to ride it despite the cold, Can't wait to ride in better weather. I would highly recommend! :biker3:  http://www.brooksuspension.co.uk/services/forks-rebuilds-repairs-service/kawasaki/kawasaki-gtr1400-forks-rebuild-repair-service.html
