Yep you are right Jim
It is about 12miles as the crow fly's from my home
The boys and girls have been doing a lot of night winding matches before I left for Scotland on Monday and tend to play at medium to high altitude.....................you can hear the roar come and go as they jockey for the kill

Things may be ramping up for something... I've had multiple attack helos buzzing my subdivision at darn near tree top level last night. Never seen/heard that before and we've been here since 1999. We're near AP Hill military installation (big training area) so when things ramp up there, it's a prelude to something somewhere else.
One presumes the Syrian/Iraq border area.....or have I broken your homeland security :2guns: :2guns: :2guns: :2guns:
Not yet, Winston, not yet. You'll know when you are visited by MI6 with compliments from our FBI and CIA. :police:

Wow!
F-15 recovery efforts...

What's interesting to me is that someone is speculating that there was a nuc on board the jet. I find this speculation somewhat out of place with the times. We (US) have more than enough bombs to fit to either cruise missiles, submarines, land based ballistic missiles, and bombers to worry about fitting them on fighters. Just isn't done. If it was back in the 50's and early 60's it wouldn't be surprising as SAC (Strategic Air Command) was experimenting with putting nuclear devices on everything with wings to counter the Communist Block threat, but not now.
My father was involved with one of those incidents (speculation of nuclear devices) back in early 1958 at Greenham Common whereby a B-47 dropped a wing tank on parked B-47s and caused quite a bit of damage. Dad was one of the flight line crew that hooked up the parked B-47s and moved them away from the resulting fires.
My father died very young (45) and I'm not so sure that something contributed to that or at least hastened his early demise. It would not surprise me that there was something to that rumour.

Charlie,
The RAF lost SIX Hawker Hunters in the space of 50 minutes in 1956. Basically they ran out of fuel over Norfolk, their home staion was fog bound, and their diversion field [Marham] became fog bound while they tried to divert.

Thanks Martin
I would of replied sooner but lost track of time following your link (hunter through tower bridge etc) and those of Jim's B47 broken arrow event. Thanks Jim.
With both events it was not a good day to go to work
The cost of this crash.... $44 million dollars for the aircraft and $600, 000 for the cleanup.
The USAF will pay 75% of the bill and you guys get to pay 25%.. And for that we thank you.
I'm not sure why the Ministry of Defence is assisting with the payment. I don't think they had anything to do with the mishap. Although, it could be said, that if the ground wasn't where it was at the time of the incident in question, the fighter may not have crashed and may yet be in a perpetual flat spin.
Seriously, I'm glad that no one on the ground or the pilot was killed in this incident.

:agree:
Do the pilots have to go on a Pilot Improvement Scheme if they crash to avoid points and a Court appearance?
They are quite severely yelled at before they go out again and it does take a bit of time to pay for the aircraft.
