Title: Dr. Who
Post by: virginiajim on October 08, 2014, 11:59:06 AM
Anyone here a fan of the show?  I can't get my arms around Peter Capaldi and the episodes so far aren't that good.  Bear in mind, I've been watching the show since it's inception.  Was in England when it debuted.  I'd really like to see more UNIT action and  :censored: I do really miss Torchwood (UK version).  Hated the US version.

Have to say Peter Capaldi' Doctor is the total embodiment of 'The Doctor' to me.

I was brought up on Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertrwee and the newer Doctors (Ecclestone, Tennant and Smith) have been good, but too much action men.

Capaldi is back to the thinker with a vague understanding of the human condition, clearly an alien and intolerant of stupid!

I do like his rendition!

Agree about Torchwood, great programme.  Not seen the US version but I can imagine having seen their version of Life on Mars and The Inbetweeners!

The difference in BBC or UK productions and what the US typically grinds out is simply amazing.  Both my wife and myself are amazed at the cinematography on the BBCA and PBS shows from the UK.  Makes me feel like I'm there and I best not be drinking otherwise I turn into a sodden mess.

I used to be a big Dr Who fan. My head was forever stuck in a Dr Who book. The show was brilliant up to the Peter Davidson era, and by Sylvester McCoy's era had run dry. Nicola Bryant though

I watched some of the revival and whilst interesting, just doesn't hold the same fascination anymore. Still watch it when it's on and think it's a shame Christopher Eccleston didn't stay on longer.  He was the best doctor of the new crop imo. John Hurt made a good Doctor as well. I can't remember the name, but the silver haired chap who played the role of the Master in the new series for one episode was fantastic. Pity they didn't keep him on.

Don't blame her.  I'll probably be gone by Christmas if not sooner.  Just can't stand Peter Capaldi and the not so good writing.  I wasn't crazy about Matt Smith but at least the writing was good.

I have quite enjoyed the storyline/writing this season too Jim.

Funny how we all have differing opinions!

I like the one episode stories and quite like Steven Moffat's writing/scripting.

Peter Capaldi is in quite a lot of stuff in minor roles (bit like David Tennant and Matt Smith were) in UK drama/comedy.

As I said, I quite like the older not so action adventure style and quirkiness of his portrayal.

Each to own though...

I think Asif and Pete are watching the right part of the TV screen when watching Dr Who  :whistling:

He does seem better there than in Who.  I much prefer Morecambe and Wise...
