whats considered the best antifreeze in terms of the chemical properties rather than just a brand name, I know there is a cheap crap one which I want to avoid

I used Halfords OAT antifreeze. I did read about the dangers of OAT with motorcycles - something to do with General Motors and their specific brand. From the research I did the Halfords OAT appears to be fine for the GTR.

I think the consensus over here is to use an antifreeze without silicates in it.  I've pretty much standardized on Honda coolant (pre-mixed), although I did have the dealer do a change of it this year so they probably used Kwakers brand.

Be careful when opening the drain bolt.  It initially dribbles out so you go and open the cap a bit more and then it's arterial bleed time all over the garage wall.  Spurts out like Old Faithful in Yellowstone park (albeit horizontally).  Also, keep an eye on the bolt itself, it's very small and easy to lose.  I lost mine the first time I did it, ordered a new one, got ready to plug it back up and promptly found the old one.

I use a coolant called "Engine Ice".  it's a little hard to come by and not cheap.  Your local dealer may have to order it in for you.
